Wilders, you may recall, has made a film linking some apparently ambiguous verses in the Qu’uran with acts of religious extremism around the world. Bit of a stretch, I know – but, free speech and all that. Everyone’s got a right to an opinion.
So anxious was the Dutch parliament and foreign minister not to give untoward offense that they importuned upon Wilders not to show his little bit of cinema verite. But “naff off,” said himself, and the only solution to bad speech is more speech.
So it fell to public television to put things right by linking biblical exhortations to acts of political violence using Wilders’ own methodology. Only:
After extensive research, linking Bible quotations with real political events and acts of violence however produced an insufficient basis for a thorough journalistic production.
Ah, well: Keep up the good fight.
