Freedom Fighter! He’s “much of a man”, my daddy would say.

I like the way he thinks.

    And acts.

it has often been asked, “where does america find such men?”

sometimes, such men find america first.

  • Now that is someone to Admire!

I salute to this man! I hope someone makes a movie or book about him and his unit. Those men cannot be forgotten!!!

  • What rt said. Amazing story.

  • Wow. I remember the stories about the guy who rode outside the chopper and marveled at his courage and determination to save the life of a fellow soldier.

It’s incredible to finally learn about that soldier.

The conversations between son and father demonstrate clearly the gulf between the thinking realist and the head-in-the-sand idealist. . . and the father’s simpleminded attitude of being “in favor of peace,” reported to result from observing simmering, never-ending wars in Sierra Leone, supports the argument that when war must be waged it should be done full-force with the goal being a clear and final win. No half measures. No kinder / gentler.

I’d like to meet the son. Quite a guy – and that nasty wound didn’t change his views, so I’d say they are for real.

What an incredible story. It would have been fantastic without the helicopter part, that was just icing on the cake :)

  • Congratulations on the Weekly Standard link.

It’s a story that should get more attention.
