"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones
"Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra"
"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche
"A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke
“You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier

Pretty amazing video footage. Do you think the drone had some sort of tracking radar on it? How was the camera able to focus on that MiG so well?
It looks like they had good radar tracking on the fighter before and after it shot down the uav. There is another Reuters video that shows the jet coming down from and returning to Russia.
But it was impressive how nicely everything stayed in frame for the most part.
…Wow. Seems he was a bit close though, wasn’t he? I’d think the frag cloud when the warhead went would have been a definite hazard – unless of course he was:
A) In ‘fangs out and stupid’ mode, something Russian pilots are known for;
B) Wasn’t entirely sure of the missile’s willingness to track the target, or
C)All of the above.
Mike
Seen lots of air-air videos before, but never one from the target. Purdy Neat.
Something that is much more fun to watch on YouTube than it is to experience in person…
Wow. very cool.
And thats why my RECCE training used videos and weird photos, and not the same picture they’ve seen a million times before. Pretty cool Point of View. Wonder if the internal brains on the UAV went “Oh SH&T” before impact?

Dear Lex,
It has been out of hand for a long time, since the early 90s – and talk about blowback – the Russkis used the Chechens for their wet work in Georgia before 1995 and have since then had numerous opportunities to learn the cost of imperialism by surrogate. The thing this should communicate though is that the Bear was keeping a few captive nations to chew on in its larder even after 1991 and this suggests that the pathologies we are currently seeing are not simply due to Mr. Putin. They aren’t the Sovs, thank God, but the Russians are no friends of freedom – their own or that of their neighbors.
