The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones "Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra" "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche "A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke "Μολὼν λαβέ" -- Leonidas "Blogito Ergo Sum" -- Neptunus Lex Relocating?Military members find information on homes for military by visiting Military Homes.com For the Effort!Subscribe![]() Tagsafghanistan AGW Araby army Blogging buffoonery china culture economy Flying Friday Musings geopol GWOT Headlines health care History iran iraq issues Media Memory Lane Military Navy norks Oz pakistan piracy politicians politics Politics and Culture pundits Russia science seals sea stories silliness Small Stuff SoCal sport technology UAVs UK usaf usmc weapons WP Cumulus Flash tag cloud by Roy Tanck and Luke Morton requires Flash Player 9 or better. |

Ah, a fine picture of a “high value unit” passing gas.
Lex, I hate to be the fly in the ointment, but I’m pretty convinced those folks on the other ships know there is an aircraft carrier nearby. Well, carrying aircraft.
Perhaps the flyby is a bit of “indecent exposure.”
Cheers.
Pity there won’t be many more UNREPs for the Kitty. Didja see the pics of the MMs lighting off Kitty’s Boilers just a few ago? (Isn’t that the job of BTs, or have BTs disappeared as a rate?)

Motion from fire and boiling water. Pretty close to the end of that era.
Best of luck to the new CO of Shoup, CDR Mike Lehman and to the “old” XO LCDR Rolando “Curly” Ramirez. Shoup is a great vessel for the class.
BTs went away during the 90s…
Sweet UNREP shot. I served aboard 3 UNREP ships as Navigator (thus the handle), OPS, and 1st LT. Active duty delivery is all but gone, with most ships on the delivery end going to MSC. Demands excellent seamanship and surprisingly technical rigging, often performed by the least educated rates.
This picture reminds me of a kindergarten class on a feild trip. Hold hands so no one becomes lost!
You know, I’m beginning to be convinced that F18’s spend half their time creating vapor clouds for cameramen…
Lex: There will be no speed without the product that is flowing through those hoses. The Fleet oiler is like an American Express card, you can’t leave home without it.
Dave
Yea. What Dave said. At least ’til they revisit the nuke powered airplane idea.
