One hand for the ship.
Pretty good thing there wasn’t an E-2 back there waiting behind the JBD.

Targets of Opportunityblog advertising is good for you Credo"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones "Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra" "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche "A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke “You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier "Μολὼν λαβέ" -- Leonidas "Blogito Ergo Sum" -- Neptunus Lex Amazon AssociateFor the Effort!Winnar!![]() Subscribe![]() CategoriesPagesTagsacademy

A long time ago, I got to do a slide on the deck of Independence. I was inattentive for a moment on a recovery and bingo! Down the deck I went on my backside. The old dungarees went. Yeah, it hurt.
So, why does that happen (other than the obvious physics of it)?
Probably not safe, but certainly looks fun!
I watched that video four times and the face on that man looks suspiciously like a woman to me. Of course, I could just be nuts…
Ouch! Non-skid burns!
think about the new electromagnetic catapults on the USS Ford.
think about the steel toe shoes.
sliding on non-skid could start happening more.
Marvin, color me stupid, but how does EMALS make you slide around the deck more? Is it a wide strip of smooth surface, or something else?
FBL, that was non-skid he was sliding on..think sliding on 20 grit sandpaper..serious road rash.
Marvin, you can now buy safety shoes with titanium caps instead of steel, for around $10 more than the steel, with the same price. I expect the Navy will do the same, but you never know with the DoD and it’s head stuck in 20 year old sand.
Yeah, 20 grit when freshly applied… but towards the end of deployment the salt, grease and JP5 smooths it out quite a bit.
And we pay them so little. God bless each and every one of them, and I’m an agnostic.
LtJG Andrew,
Sir, think what might happen when an electromagnetic catapult “latches onto” the steel toe caps in a pair of boots.
0-150 in 3 seconds is it? That would certainly beat 6 Flags for a thrill ride… right off the bow.
