Alas, I can follow a lot of the milspeak (no idea why) but am ashamed to admit that I never have deciphered IIRC.

I was somewhat surprised that after all these years I still understood the milspeak… alas the jargon is apparently imprinted in my brain forever…and it’s certaintly true that in the way back , before Special Forces was a seperate army branch, SF and to a lesser extent unconventional warfare service was very often a career kiss of death ( which is was for me ) when you returned, as you had to, to your basic branch.
So the heavies are now apparently being eclipsed by the accendant light and unconventional forces… doing Gods work …indeed. Best

A rule of tech writers, writers of technical information, and writers in general. The first time you use and ACRONYM – spell it out. Otherwise the Three Letter Acronyms (TLAs) overwhelm the peripheral audiences (PAs). This has the unfortunate consequence of increasing the letter count and losing the audience. And when the TLAs overcome the PA then the traffic meter goes down and the blog goes TU*.

*bawdy slang for dead in the water.

Goes to show how hard it is to recognize jargon as jargon when it’s your main mode of speech…

Basically it means that the Army is starting to recognize – and reward – unconventional service that happens to win the war we’re actually in. For too long good officers went to PRTs and TTTs to die, for not being in a maneuver unit when that was the service’s bias.

That war’s over – this one is still to win. The Army has just recognized that we need a process to recognize the folks doing the lord’s work.
