Having won his 14th major championship on Monday, Tiger Woods is dropping out of the 2008 season for yet another knee surgery.
Tiger Woods, just two days removed from winning the U.S. Open in a hard-fought playoff, will have reconstructive knee surgery and miss the rest of the PGA Tour season.
According to a statement on Woods’ Web site, the 14-time major winner will have his fourth knee operation, and his second in two months, in order to repair his left anterior cruciate ligament.
The announcement that Woods will skip the remainder of the year is a stunning end to a dramatic week for the world’s top-ranked golfer. Last Thursday, he teed up in the 108th U.S. Open, at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, after having not played competitively since the Masters in April.
Love him or hate him, Woods is good for the game. His absence will take a lot of air out of the remainder of the season, if not in drama, then in viewership and sponsors.

Torrey Pines might be the unmatchable capstone of a career…
It would be a crushing blow if he finds that he is unable to compete in the future. I’m certain that he has goals to pass both Nicklaus and Palmer for most wins and most majors. He’s already third in most majors, I understand.
Now some of the other guys get a chance to win…….
That is not such a bad thing. He’ll be back and when he does-stand by.
So Tiger on one leg is better than the rest of the PGA on two?
Bummer. . .I was rooting for another Tiger Slam. He’ll be back. One can only hope the golf world will be ready.
Heard on the radio that it was not just his ACL. He also had two stress fractures of his tibia. A bum knee and a broken leg, and still came out on top.
I’ve seen more than a few Opens, and this one was by far the most fun to watch. Carry over to Monday? Unbelievable. Rocco was a class act, and Tiger was the reason to watch. I can’t wait to see him back on the course.
I just found out today that most people don’t know where Tiger’s nickname comes from…
Is this true?
Anyone wanna guess?
Clue: It has to do with his heritage.
Wasn’t it the nickname of an ARVN officer that his dad served with?
Tiger’s mother is Thai as I recall.
