Why on earth does it matter if we 'win' in Iraq? What does that even mean? What are the conditions for victory/defeat? What does it even matter which side we're on?
The ONLY good argument I can think of for staying in Iraq is to prevent genocide. But as far as that goes, there are far more efficacious and easy methods we could use to prevent genocide.
Such as, for instance, not supporting the dictators who commit the genocide WHILE they are doing it (or at any time for that matter) as we did with Saddam prior to his invasion of Kuwait and with Nicolae Ceauşescu (before his people overthrew him and Bush II praised them for 'stairing down' the evil (that previous US presidents supported) and with contra terrorists in Nicaragua and Indonesian forces in East Timor. The list goes on.

My point is that our actions have in many cases CAUSED genocide, so I really don't think we can take any claims of a good-will invasion or occupation without a truck-load of salt.

Lex ... sumptuous is right. There is nothing so thrilling to a southern lady as a handsome southern gentleman in a seersucker suit. Especially to a southern lady who has been living with 95 degree days and 80 degree nights for the past two months.

I’m working on a header from “Office Space” next.

A request from the peanut gallery: Can the new header just be part of the rotation? 'Cause those jets are just toooo kewl. ;)

And the suit? Almost as good as dress whites. *swoon*

Skippy-san, you're splitting non-existent hairs with this "overbearing" occupation definition. I am sure there are citizens of Okinawa that find the presence of one U.S. military member "overbearing." That there is an arbitrary number of acceptable troops is a hard call to make and worse for policy makers, a hard number to determine.
Citing history, despite uniqueness, couldn't Iraq become a re-hash of 1946 Japan? We are seeing similar cultural shifts even at the ground level. Granted we are less enthusiastic about winning the kulturkampf, which I think would add stability to the region.

I must agree that I am getting sick of hearing America accused of being an empire, and yet not getting any benefit.

Lex: Long sleeves in sunny Cali? Ties? Don't you know those could be choking hazards! At least, so was told this young pup as a 'reason' to ditch the tie he was wearing on his first day.

Lex,

Did you wear Giraffe and Hippo at the same time? Dude!

I pictured you as more of a short sleeved 60/40 kind of guy. With breast pockets, of course...

So you guys dress down during the week and dress up on Fridays? Fascinating.

Great Weekend all!

See, I just wanted to stun you with the sumptuousness of my seersucker suit. Which is for Friday's only, the rest of the week being dedicated to long sleeve shirts (cuffs rolled once) and trou.

Because in any case, the flight suit pic? Had rapidly become anachronistic. I'm working on a header from "Office Space" next. Just got to find a picture of cubicles wide enough...
