Holy Smokes! Wouldn’t want to be standing on that lake shore.

@Idaho Joe, unless the 4th picture is a product of something like “Photoshop”. It appears there are at least 4 people standing near the shore with a dog, border collie. There still appears to be daylight under the plane. I wonder if there is a mixture of a lack of wisdom and great deal of flying skill involved here.

Saw these on Airwarriors a few days ago.

They make me wish the Nav still had flying boats, like the Albatross and PBY.

Port Alberni is their home base on Vancouver Island, BC and you’ll need your BMW motorcycle for the most fun getting there. The road is full of twisty’s and there isn’t much between point A and B. Salmon fishing is the #1 product out there, that and beautiful coastline. We’re talking rugged, rocky, and cold water!

  • Is that precision flying, or a near crash?

I guess the difference lies in whether or not you walk away, huh?

  • Well, those water tanks aren’t gonna fill themselves. Ya gotta go to the water.
Anyone who saw the Speilberg movie “Always” saw a great shot of a PBY skimming for water.

Man that Martin Mars is HUGE! Man the compared to the other flying boats this is like taking your Old Grand Dads Lincoln Continental out. She doesnt turn on a dime and you have to use your Day Planner to plan your moves…

Balls! and Big Brass ones at that!

  • I just want to know if he was landing or mowing the weeds?

You can take a ride on a similar vintage boat…

  • Dad worked for Pan Am during the twilight of the Clipper Flying Boats. We had all the cool promo literature around the house for years. I never stood a chance…

I wonder if they are hiring.

@bwaffle, I can not resist, but I must agree with your last line.

“Balls! and Big Brass ones at that!”

I would add, “Balls, ALL BIG BRASS BALLS, BUT NO BRAINS!”

When I was in ROTC one of my instructors said ( Circa 1963): “There are three a/c sounds that are so unique that once you hear them you’ll know what a/c it is sight unseen: (1) the squeek of the breaks on a C-124,(2) the thrashing sound of the engines of an Albatross and (3) the hi-pitch squeal
of a T-37 Tweety bird. I heard the first during ROTC camp at old Lockbourne , Ohio AFB in 1965; the 3rd in plt tng and #2 the old Albatross at DaNang. And the guy was right! In the case of #1 and 2 I heard the sound before I even saw the bird, yet knew instantly it could be only one thing–so distinctive are those sounds!
