Baby steps

Most of the way there. I’ll need to run a character search to get rid of all those “”‘s that have shamelessly thrust themselves upon us. And reconstruct some of the pages: Archives, About and so on. It appears that some of the photo galleries went missing – bringing those back should be “fun”.

But we’ve got our posts, comments and overall structure back. Which is nice.

I’m not going to tell you how tedious it is to cut and paste swallowable chunks of an 80 meg database into a SQL search window is. Nor the direct and sunken costs of abandoning one webserver in favor of another.

Because for a moment there? I was pretty sure someone was trying to tell me something.

Update: John Donovan’s been busy though, listening to the deployed troops. Which apparently is something a certain someone could scarcely be bothered with.

For what that’s worth.

Update 2: OK, clearly I have some more work to do in the comment department. That’ll have to wait until later, I very much regret to say. My thanks to both Kris and Larry for helping offset the expense of shifting colors over the last few days, and hopefully by the weekend we’ll be operating at peak efficiency (*cough*) once more.

    Hey, success!
    At least sort of, anyway.
    Thanks Lex. :D

  • Today’s Early Bird had an article blasting the e-mail in question as factually incorrect and that its author had violated Army policy.

“But angry Army brass debunked the Obama-bashing soldier’s allegations, which went viral yesterday over the Web and on military blogs such as Blackfive.

The e-mail claims Obama repeatedly shunned soldiers on his way to the Clamshell— a recreation tent— to “take his publicity pictures playing basketball.”

“These comments are inappropriate and factually incorrect,” said Bagram spokesman Army Lt. Col. Rumi Nielson-Green, who added that such political commentary is barred for uniformed personnel.

Obama didn’t play basketball at Bagram or visit the Clamshell, he said. Home-state troops were invited to meet him, but his arrival was kept secret for security reasons.”

  • I’ve been on vacation, avoiding the news (literally 2 weeks without turning on a TV) but I did catch a couple seconds of Obama being joyously welcomed by American troops in some foreign clime… and immediately noticed that every single person in the bleachers cheering appeared to have the same shade of melanin. Quite similar to that of the candidate, actually. And the troops of pallor who were standing around were decidedly not cheering.

I wonder if I should think on that.

Bob Owens has a counter-point to the official spin.

If I was the Army and heard this kind of thing from a junior officer about our 44th president, I’d be kind of chapped too.

  • Lex – please, use some of that cash swag to chug a Guinness. After the problems you’ve had this week – I suspect you’ll need it.

Beloved by the troops or probably not, “Everybody Loves Barry” is on a photoshoot worthy of a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Tour . Well..maybe not quite.

Personally, I think his giving a political speech in a foreign country to a foreign crowd is entirely unseemly. It reminds me of hearing about a young Clinton protesting against the US in the UK during his unfinished “Rhodes” days…

Regardless of all that, one of the Lex regulars up until a few months ago, one CPT J, wrote this email back from Afghanistan about B.O.H. pits stop there. he always seemed a cheerful, honest type in/about Lex’s parlor. No reason to doubt one of his sitreps is there?…

Where there’s “Smoke and Mirrors” there’s normally fire and phoniness…

  • b2,

You had me howling with laughter and shooting water out of my nose with ““Everybody Loves Barry” is on a photoshoot worthy of a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Tour.”

    Reason?

I didn’t think that the made Modular Tactical Vests either low cut enough or in the proper colors for Giselle to consider wearing one.

Darn it. Someone ought to do something about this clearly appalling hole in our acquisition system.

  • b2

re Giselle’s vest: We could custom design one..I have ideas.

It’s a Fellini World. So much happening at once I can’t process 5% of it..

Let me see, just from today- B.H.O. attempting to act presidential and disparaging, or at minimum, chastising our country in front of foreigners…on purpose, John Edwards running around with Andrew Young’s girlfriend and hiding in bathrooms and oh yeah, a human interest story about Bernard Obama, Barry’s brother, who actually IS a Muslim from East Africa…..

Interesting times. This stuff has got to playing big time in Morgantown and Roanoke..

    b2

  • Yea, but they only drink 3.2 beer in Morganhole-they need something for excitement.

  • b2

CPT J besmirched himself I reckon..He had me fooled.
