The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones "Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra" "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche "A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke "Μολὼν λαβέ" -- Leonidas "Blogito Ergo Sum" -- Neptunus Lex Relocating?Military members find information on homes for military by visiting Military Homes.com For the Effort!Subscribe![]() Tagsafghanistan AGW Araby army Blogging buffoonery china culture economy Flying Friday Musings geopol GWOT Headlines health care History iran iraq issues Media Memory Lane Military Navy norks Oz pakistan piracy politicians politics Politics and Culture pundits Russia science seals sea stories silliness Small Stuff SoCal sport technology UAVs UK usaf usmc weapons WP Cumulus Flash tag cloud by Roy Tanck and Luke Morton requires Flash Player 9 or better. |

Nice that they are designed for that.
Shocking!
That must have been a real eye opener for the pax. Bet they served a free round or two of booze afterwards.
Wow – that looked pretty frightening. I read some of the comments at the Glumbert site – not the brighest bulbs in the pack, that’s for sure. But someone did say that these jets are designed to absorb that kind of thing.
Is that true?
I hate it when that happens.
Some nice German F-4s in the foreground. Oh… what is this lightning thing ya’ll are talking about?
That looks like better than usual wx for Europe–not that the occasional clear and a million days don’t come stumbling by occasionally.
They are indeed designed for that–though it is prudent to avoid, of course.
I was flying a 747-400 that took a lightning strike on approach in Brazil last week. It required a write-up in the maintenance logbook which triggered an inspection procedure to make sure all was OK. It was.
The aircraft is TUFF.
