I was flying a 747-400 that took a lightning strike on approach in Brazil last week. It required a write-up in the maintenance logbook which triggered an inspection procedure to make sure all was OK. It was. The aircraft is TUFF. They are indeed designed for that–though it is prudent to avoid, of course.
