I have to say, I was stunned by his selection of Biden–for many reasons, but that quote was at the top of my list.
ambition leads to some strange bedfellows.
Actually, Lex, DE looses the most Senior Senator if he gets elected. That means no more spot on committees. I wonder if this will backfire.
CAP’N,
You picked Biden, and alas, I was stunned. It made no sense to me, except maybe the Dalai Bama doen’t wish to get elected. As he copped a phrase from Biden hisself, it’s “over his pay grade” — scared sh!tless of his own success, so the Chosen One picked the Hair-Plugged One to ensure defeat, all for the good of the country.
That’s my WWF scenario. It makes more sense that what we’re seeing/hearing.
I need another drink, I do.
I wasn’t surprised at all. O! just doesn’t have that much experience making decisions, hence, he makes poor ones.
My Dear Dead Mom hated Biden’s guts. She used to yell at the TV when he was speaking on C-SPAN. My Mom was from Mississippi, and knew all about politicians like him. She was never wrong when it came to business, or politics.
So, who’s McCain going to pick, so as to screw things into somewhere small and smelly so as to make sure he loses?
Guys, this is serious! I’ve already written a comment on rivrdog’s blog that I’ll quit drinking and get serious if Obama and Biden win!
Please, let us not have that happen
Well, if nothing else teaches him a lesson in history this will. Biden claims to have authored the 1994 GCA and we all know how well that worked out for the D’s. Apparently Barry O conveniently overlooked this minor fact in his vetting process.
So… where’s the Change? For years now, the Dems have been intimating that the Current Resident/Pretend President is an idiot incapable of making even the simplest decisions or formulating an intelligent sentence, and the country is actually being run by a corrupt old man in the shadows.
Obama has earned the nickname “The Wizard of Uhs” from his labored speech any time he isn’t reading from prepared text, while making as many mistakes as Dan Quayle regarding mundane things like the number of states that are currently amongst those united to form America.
His inexperience is obvious both in his innate ability to be completely wrong on the biggest issues of our time and his Clintonian efforts to lie his way out of self-inflicted problems. So the esteemed Senator from Delaware is supposed to provide us with the assurance of having an adult in the room?
Reading between the lines of his selection of Biden, Obama is saying “Don’t worry about my inexperience or my horrible ability to judge the character of my close personal friends and trusted advisers because it’s actually the corrupt old man in the shadows that will be running things.”
That, or “I am so uncomfortable with my own abilities to lead that I have to select a man obviously unqualified for the position to avoid myself being overshadowed by my VP.”
Well, IMHO anyway. YMMV. But really, where’s the Change we were promised?
I agree with DaveG to a certain extent.
After all, the main role of the VP during an election it to “do no harm” right? We all knew that Obama was going to have to stoop pretty low to find someone less prepared for the job than he is, and viola!!! Enter Biden.
If he wins we all better start signing petitions for Colin Powell to come back as Sec. of State.
Seems like no one needs to talk about the election anymore, its over: McCain is going to need to be caught in bed with a pre-op transexual (or pick one as a running mate) to lose this thing now. Amazing, and there hasn’t even been a convention yet…how can a political party be so adept at shooting themselves over and over and over….
I’m still holding out a dim hope that Her Hillaryness will call for a floor vote at the convention, then pull out all sorts of behind-the-scenes commitments from the super delegates to shove the Obamaton aside.
Then again, I drank Pinot Grigio last night – something I hardly ever do and for which I am still paying the price.
Anyone got a Cabernet they could share?
Kris:
Nothing wrong with a good Pinot Grigio, despite what B2 and Snake’s elevated testerosone would say about it. Just look what an occasional PG has done to improve my looks. Regards.
KM- I don’t think this is over as a positive for McCain. We’ve seen Obama say some incredibly stupid things and we’ve seen the company he keeps come out in the light and look NASTY, yet… the public seems to turn a blind eye. He makes the teflon that Clinton was made of look like frickin’ sandpaper. I’m absolutely amazed.
I didn’t see Biden coming, but I thought the other two weren’t qualified. My question was, why were those three at the top of his list? My other question is… what does Hillary want? A Justice seat? Sec of State? What is she holding out for?
I hate to be gloom and doom but the media HATES McCain and it doesn’t matter if we found out that Obama is hiding horns and a tail and McCain is Saintly… its not changing. And the Public perception isn’t either. I think we’re in trouble…
For what its worth… I think McCain will pick Romney. He’ll use the business background in an attempt to thwart economic issues with the press and… he needs a guy with dark hair. But… I could be wrong. That’s just gut instinct… although I really do think he’ll pick someone with brown hair.
Actually Kris-I’m kind of hoping the same thing. I think a floor fight, several ballots, John Dean in tears-now that would be some entertainment.
Of course now I know why McCain is unsympathetic to divorced veterans. Marry rich the second time and alimony and lost retirement is no big deal…………….
Guess I should have thought of that.
Yeah, better he should have married rich the first time. Woulda got more points for smarts.
Geez…
Heard the Biden news for the first time late today on the radio (intentional weekend news blackout )…and all I can say is that Joe, flannel mouth, Biden is the gift that keeps on giving…for the Republicans that is… Best
PS, Xairboss, For your information… Pinot Grigio, when the occasion calls, is my wine of choice… on the other hand…my opninion stands Re that Cubi Chick drink you went so on about.
PPS, It’s a lock… Romney…McCain’s VP.
it doesn’t matter if we found out that Obama is hiding horns and a tail…
Oh, so true! I’ve long held that 45% of voters would pull the lever for Charles Manson as long as a ‘D’ followed his name, and the opposite 45% would as well if it was an ‘R’.
I hate the two party system we seem to have accepted for ourselves. It drives every issue to be viewed as black vs. white, if you say yes I say no. There are no shades of gray, no room for alternative, compromise views. The issues that face us are far too complex for solutions to be always mutually exclusive and diametrically opposed.
Davreg-AMEN!
Someone has to explain the wisdom of Romney to me. McCain has to win over undecideds and it seems picking Romeny does not help that cause-all it does is cement the the “real conservatives”. But they don’t have a place to go to anyway-they are not going to vote for Obama.
And if it is to shore up McCains credentials as a conservative, then it undercuts his efforts to run as Change Republican and against the President, which if you watch his ads he is subtly doing. (Smart move on his part BTW).
Better to pick a young guy like Jindal or one of the other governors and build seed corn for the party’s future. Especially in light of McCain’s age.
Who knew – real men drink white wine…
Skippy -
I like governors for executive positions because I see more similarity between that type of leadership position and what the presidency should be. IOW, it’s a more applicable level of experience.
But if it has to be a senator, and this cycle that appears to be a de facto requirement, I think McCain could win back part of his base by selecting someone like Tom Coburn. Coburn has a proven track record of fighting against corruption and wasteful spending, and I’m all in favor of that. He’s too socially conservative for my tastes, but that would appeal to the GOP base. It might even mitigate some of the non-conservative things about McCain that I don’t like.
GOOGLE -”MCCAIN-COBURN 2008″ also TOM COBURN VIDEOS -LANDS BILL..and you’ll be convinced , we need to convince campaignto push McCAIN vp announcement to Tues eve sept2nd after Dr. Tom Coburn’s Tues night speech at convention, plus McCcaingets breathholding anticipation with satellite trucks and helicopters hoveringoverthe homes of Sarah Palin in Alaska, Dr. Tom Coburn -in Oklahoma etc.
Skippy-san, I’ve consulted the Runes numerous times about this … all signs point to Romney as McCain’s VP. Best
Dang, Snake! Let us hope that does not happen! If he picks the Governor of Alaska, as I’ve written before, and is elected, I’ll send him weekly packages full of cigarettes and bacon.
Sorry, Cap’n Mac, we have us a better Cap’n rat cheer.
I honor Senator McCain for what he honorably endured, but that ain’t the same as what one does.
Oh, don’t get me wrong, he’s still orders of magnitude better than the O-hole.
JTG, The Runes have never failed me…excelsior old sport. Best
Obama isn’t teflon. He is the candidate that people will politely avoid saying too much about for fear of being seen as racist, and then politely not vote for. I think this is going to be an election that confounds pollsters–even the exit pollsters.
It’s important to recognize that in choosing Biden, the Dems have decided to “address” the Republican critique that the ticket lacked foreign policy creds–by doing that, they failed to head on confront the Republicans by countering with the old BC line, “it’s the economy, stupid”. In doing so, they have allowed the Republicans to define the rules of engagement–clearly something to McCain’s advantage. Furthermore, by choosing a senator over a governor, Obama has weakened his ticket…people do feel comfortable with governors because its seen as prep for the presidency, senators aren’t generally seen as having much practical experience–
McCain should pick a governor as running mate–Romney isn’t my choice, but would firm up the four corners region. McCain doesn’t need a southerner, and Jindal isn’t ready for the national stage at that level–I’ve met the man, there are potential issues there…though no doubt he’ll run himself one day. Louisiana may be in play for the dems simply because Louisianans have a strong tendency to vote the party opposite of their governor, but that shouldn’ t be a big enough concern to put Jindal on the ticket. Romney will not bring Massachusetts to the Republican vote tally, so in that sense he’s a bit of a waste. Still, the choice of Biden assures that people won’t be voting for the vp candidate, as some pundits were predicting, as long as McCain stays with a vanilla icecream pick, it will be straight up between the presidential candidates. Obama is incapable of simplifying his message into sound bits that don’t sound inane, add that to his other baggage, and I really can’t imagine him winning.
km, Sweet Jesus himself couldn’t deliver the Bay State to the Republicans…but Romney should be able to deliver Michigan and as you said the four corners region. Romney is sharp, youthfully photogenetic and a former governor. He will make mincemeat out of that Gas-Bag …Joe Biden in the VP debates. Best
Skippy,
I agree with you. the Rs have no one else to turn to as a healthy VP candidate. However, I think that Rs are scared to death that the conservatives will stay home; thus, allowing the “O” man that last straw to grasp at. For that reason and that reason alone, McCain will pick Romney as his VP choice. He needs a good strong conservative on the ticket to cover his conservative shortcomimgs (border control, drilling offshore and drilling in Anwar). It will encourage the conservatives within the party to turn out to vote.
RE: “senators aren’t generally seen as having much practical experience–”
Doesn’t that cut both ways-as much against McCain as Obama?
Doesn’t that cut both ways-as much against McCain as Obama?
LOL. Yep, multiplying even very large numbers by zero still results in zero.
If Romney can bring Michigan, that alone might be the difference. Romney is a brand in Michigan.
