If Romney can bring Michigan, that alone might be the difference. Romney is a brand in Michigan.

Doesn’t that cut both ways-as much against McCain as Obama?

LOL. Yep, multiplying even very large numbers by zero still results in zero.

Skippy,

I agree with you. the Rs have no one else to turn to as a healthy VP candidate. However, I think that Rs are scared to death that the conservatives will stay home; thus, allowing the "O" man that last straw to grasp at. For that reason and that reason alone, McCain will pick Romney as his VP choice. He needs a good strong conservative on the ticket to cover his conservative shortcomimgs (border control, drilling offshore and drilling in Anwar). It will encourage the conservatives within the party to turn out to vote.

km, Sweet Jesus himself couldn't deliver the Bay State to the Republicans...but Romney should be able to deliver Michigan and as you said the four corners region. Romney is sharp, youthfully photogenetic and a former governor. He will make mincemeat out of that Gas-Bag ...Joe Biden in the VP debates. Best

Obama isn't teflon. He is the candidate that people will politely avoid saying too much about for fear of being seen as racist, and then politely not vote for. I think this is going to be an election that confounds pollsters--even the exit pollsters.

It's important to recognize that in choosing Biden, the Dems have decided to "address" the Republican critique that the ticket lacked foreign policy creds--by doing that, they failed to head on confront the Republicans by countering with the old BC line, "it's the economy, stupid". In doing so, they have allowed the Republicans to define the rules of engagement--clearly something to McCain's advantage. Furthermore, by choosing a senator over a governor, Obama has weakened his ticket...people do feel comfortable with governors because its seen as prep for the presidency, senators aren't generally seen as having much practical experience--

McCain should pick a governor as running mate--Romney isn't my choice, but would firm up the four corners region. McCain doesn't need a southerner, and Jindal isn't ready for the national stage at that level--I've met the man, there are potential issues there...though no doubt he'll run himself one day. Louisiana may be in play for the dems simply because Louisianans have a strong tendency to vote the party opposite of their governor, but that shouldn' t be a big enough concern to put Jindal on the ticket. Romney will not bring Massachusetts to the Republican vote tally, so in that sense he's a bit of a waste. Still, the choice of Biden assures that people won't be voting for the vp candidate, as some pundits were predicting, as long as McCain stays with a vanilla icecream pick, it will be straight up between the presidential candidates. Obama is incapable of simplifying his message into sound bits that don't sound inane, add that to his other baggage, and I really can't imagine him winning.
