Kremlin critic shot in Ingushetia

The owner of an internet site critical of the Russian authorities in the volatile region of Ingushetia has been shot dead in police custody.

Magomed Yevloyev, owner of the ingushetiya.ru site, was a vocal critic of the region’s administration.

The Russian prosecutor’s office said an investigation into the death had been launched, Russia media report.

No doubt they will arrest all of the usual suspects.

Not much we can do, of course. Except declining to pretend not to see.

What? He didn’t jump out of a window? Has defenistration gone out of style?

I guess all that oil money allows them to pay for bullets now.

Hmm… I guess they’ll mark the cause of death as “acute lead poisoning” and leave it at that.

You’re right, though.. an awful lot of that going around.

I would think that the assassins would have used the old “Bulgarian umbrella trick” so popular during the second World War.

If you haven’t seen it, there’s a delightful thriller-movie called ‘Bullet to Beijing’ which purports to be a continuation of the life of Harry Palmer, In it, Michael Caine’s great character. Palmer is ‘let go’ by his latest boss, and later hired by one of the Russian Mafiya to accomplish all kinds of derring-do. Movie is shot in Russia, everywhere from St. Petersburg to Siberia. Plot goes a mile a minute and the acting is great, starting with an older but still impressive Michael Caine, Jason Connery [son of Sean] and a delicious secondary heroine reminiscent of the lovely Sarah Palin. For some foolish reason, the movie didn’t go into general release in the U.S. But it should have. I suspect it’s available through outfits like Netflix, etc., and it would make a pleasant evening’s entertainment, if you could get hold of it.

And no, I don’t own part of it. I just like it.

Sounds like the perfect case and situation for Inspector Arkady Renko. Too bad one of our guys invented him, them Rooskies could use more like him.

I realize, I’m not the smartest character on the block. The Russians listed the “criminal” as “in police custody in the police car”. If I remember correctly, when an individual is arrested in Russia, his/her hands are cuffed behind her back. Therefore, the victim would be construed as “arrested”. Now according to the Russian police reports, the “accused” was arrested, in cuffs and in the police car. While in the vehicle, there was a fight for the policeman’s weapon occurred resulting in an accidental weapon discharge. This accidental weapon discharge, is what later proved to be a fatal head wound.

Some questions- His hands are cuffed behind his back, how did the accused fight for the weapon? Are we talking about French Savate (using only his feet)? If he had control of the weapon, how would he fire it, with his feet? About the fatal accidental wounds, were there two behind his left ear, most likely a .22 Berretta?

    Just thinkin’

Marianne, looks neat in the movies, “The Bulgarian Umbrella Trick”, but it’s awfully expensive. It is extremely complicated process. This is especially true when we have the .22 Berretta automatic, right off the shelf.
