RoboTuna v2.0

Evolution is not only a savvy designer, it doesn’t charge anything for the plans:

(The Navy) wants to build robotic bluefin tunas for submarine surveillance missions. The first prototypes, designed by Massachusetts engineers, should be available by the end of the year. Of course, there are many other autonomous underwater vehicles (UAVs) already on the market. But there is a twist: a vast majority of them uses propellers. In fact, they are gliders, not swimmers. And RoboTuna 2.0 will be able to travel three times longer than these gliders with the same batteries.

Cool.

  • Yes, God created quite a hydrodynamic design there, didn’t He?

During the second world war the American Army benefitted greatly from the mechanical knowledge of the first generation of kids who had the chance to tinker with cars in their youth. They kept the trucks rolling, the tanks in action.

Maybe the next generation will benefit greatly from their internet gaming experience. You know, in order to drive tuna fish.

    Cap’n,

I must concur with Jeff. Evolution is more pre random chance not design. God DID come up with a stellar design for an aquatic hunter-killer.

  • Should have made it an albacore instead of bluefin.

Actually, for speed in the water and low noise signature, rather than a tuna they might consider the humble shortfin Mako shark.

One thing about evolution, anything that’s been around pretty much unchanged for a million years and is still at the top of the food chain is going to be kind of difficult to improve upon.

  • Count me in as the YEC. I believe God created and designed allathese creatures. Which is why we call ‘em CREATures, not EVOLtures, after all.

    ah, yes…

BUT, can they mount a frickin “laser” on it?
