Still Crushin’

Speech of her life, yah? (And yes, there’s a reason I’m not quoting US media there.)

Hotter than a two-dollar pistol, too. For what that’s worth. Which ain’t nothing, or else John Edwards might have avoided certain highs and lows over the last few years.

I toyed with the idea of doing a blow-by-blow like all the real political bloggers do, but that would have required actual, you know: effort. And taking my eyes off the screen. Rudy clearly appeared to be having the time of his life and gave a great warm-up. Anyone who wasn’t charmed by Piper – including the whole hair-smoothing thing for baby Trig – doesn’t have it within his cold and gristled innards to be charmed.

This is as good or better a play-by-play as I could have done.

And like SondraK’s krewe, I’m just happy to bid farewell to the p-word suit.

Tentative conclusion? Anyone not part of that famous 28% is now willing to listen. The GOP base is hyperventilating. That masthead nasties have directly called out, and they won’t go down without a fight. Which might just blow up in their inkstained faces.

And I’m really looking forward to the VP debates. And – for the first time – the election itself, although there’s a lot of water between here and there, and something tells me that the long knives are being sharpened.

Update: Barack Obama thinks Palin’s speech was more of the same divisiveness. Ross Douthat thinks that the Democrats would be best served by just changing the subject – that attacking Palin is a lose-lose proposition, that it would be best to not even talk about her. In that light, Joe Biden has some unifying themes he’d like to stress:

Democratic vice-presidential nominee Joe Biden said earlier this week that he and running mate Barack Obama could pursue criminal charges against the Bush administration if they are elected in November…

(His) statements represent the Democrats’ strongest vow so far this year to investigate alleged misdeeds committed during the Bush years.

Banana Republic-style criminalization of policy differences? Yeah: That should bring us all together.

You know, Skippy, I have to think that if you were in the process of getting across the breakers with Ms Palin, getting screwed at the drive thru would be the least of your fears.

Wonder what a retired CICO looks like, field dressed?

Heard a sound bite from an interview with Todd Palin this morning. Said something like “If I’d had a crystal ball back when Sarah had decided to join the PTA…..” He has some of the same sense of humor his wife has. And she’s originally from Sandpoint, Idaho. I’m just waiting for the words “White Supremacist Militia,” to come up.

I’m loving this. Don’t know where it’s going, but I’m on the ride for now.

You say that like it was a good thing…………

“You say that like it was a good thing…………”

Sometimes when your BDS flares up, it can get one to thinkin’………

  • One man’s “DS” is another man’s insight……….

Just trying to keep the conversation lively!

I just got back from the rally here in Cedarburg, WI. The rally was held in the middle of the picturesque downtown and could only hold a 1,000-2,000 people. The line of people that DID NOT get in extended over 11 city blocks. Talking to LE, the crowd far exceeded the expectations of 5,000-8,000. National news coverage was scandalous–stating only “hundreds” in attendance.

All I can say is that Sarah Palin is a natural communicator. She has a folksy charm that is very unique and engaging (certainly for us “rural folk” who, you know–like to cling to things).

For a naval aviator and canoe-u grad, McCain speech far exceeded my expectations (I admit, those two attributes make the bar I set pretty low to begin with).

They are quite the dynamic pair. If politics is 50% about connecting to the people, the Republicans are in good shape.

That’s a great sign. If they can win Wisconsin, they will win the election.

  • Wisconsin last went R in 1988………..

    One man’s “DS” is another man’s insight……….

It is hard for me to envision “Olberman” and “insight” in the same sentence.

  • For some reason MSNBC is exiled by my cable company so I don’t get to watch him any more.

But I get a satellite dish soon (so the S.O. can watch NHK)-so may be I’ll get to see him then.

    Skippy,

If you can’t get MSNBC, do you get the DNC to mail you talking points directly?

  • Scott

I don’t think KO and the rest of are “exiled” — I think there probably isn’t any demand for that view point there in Shopping Mall America. Fly over country, and all that. Gun and religion clingers, etc. Once again, an expat.

Nose — feel sorry for him — unlike you and me, Skippy’s vote won’t make a difference. McCain/Palin owns SM America — up by 21%. Which ever way either of us decides to vote, at least it will make a difference. It is that lack of effect that is driving my good friend, Skippy, absolutely ape shit.
