"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones
"Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra"
"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche
"A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke
“You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier

Not sure about the logbook, but the Cubi Cat qual plaque is in P’Cola. Are you immortalized on there, too??
As an aside, one of my buddies has been working overtime at Kingsville building a re-creation of the Cat for the O Club. Bets are being accepted for how long it remains in operation before the safety nazis shut it down.
While not a Navy man, rather just a mere soldier with a love for exiting perfectly good planes while in flight, the story was much appreciated. It brought to mind many similar adventures conducted all around the world during my time in the Army. I must admit I was almost misty eyed… but it is a tad dusty here and the wind is blowing.
Thanks for an awesome story,

Ahh, Cubi…I can almost feel the ice-cold Sammi in my hand.
Sunset appreciation, the fruit bowls to help cure the hard-earned hangovers, the call of the *%#! River Bridge and the adventures beyond. Buying stuff (tailored uniforms, typically) that were NKR (not kwite right). Wandering through the Cubi O’Club bar reading the plaques from warriors of long ago.
CAG 5′s second home for oh so many years…I feel lucky that I got to experience it in all it’s glory (before Pinatubo and the pull-out). Truly a lost jewel for WestPac sailors…
Ghost of Youth indeed… A fellow Sailor spent his LAST three quarters (as in his no sh!t last 75 cents before ship departure, 2 days hence) in one of the slot machines in the Exchange coffee shop/cafeteria close to the main gate. Won $75. Sometimes I wish I had been smart enough to take more pics of the Subic / Cubi experience. Back in those days, we thought the PI would be a West Pac constant.
As an AF guy up in DaNang my memories of “Cubi” were simply the funny as hell stories the Marines in the 1stMAW across
the runway would tell of their trips down to Cubi to steal bombs from the Navy when they ran low at DaNang…..
