Mullah Omar’s brave billy boys have finally screwed their courage to the sticking point, and – chiefly concerning themselves with the sanctity of a woman’s honored place in society, and acting severally – managed the boast-worthy act of murdering a woman on her way to work:
Lt-Col Malalai Kakar, head of Kandahar’s department of crimes against women, was shot in her car as she was about to leave for work.
Her son was also wounded in the attack, and is said to be seriously injured.
Taleban rebels, who banned women from joining the police when they were in power, said they had carried out the shooting.
“We killed Malalai Kakar,” a Taleban spokesman told AFP news agency.
“She was our target, and we successfully eliminated our target.”
The mother of six had earned a degree of international fame in the ’80s by gunning down three assassins who had made an attempt on her life.
Women are the weaker sex in the Taliban’s eye, meaning that men are strong (and little boys are scared). So women must be protected, in this case, by bravely lying in wait for one of them and gunning her down with the advantage of surprise.
Thus is honor preserved, bravo.

To get an accurate picture of Afghan culture and the Taliban, read “The Kite Runner” and ” A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini.
Both books are best sellers.
Highly recomend!
…against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
Might apply to both this and the previous post.
Lex, I’m a little confused, but what can you expect from a “Dumb Ass Vet”. Are you telling us, in all of Afghanistan, they could only find a woman, who had the brass, where it counts, to do this job? This speaks volumes about the Afghan men. The Taliban was in such FEAR of this one WOMAN, the ABSOLUTE TERROR DROVE THEM TO MURDER HER, A MERE WOMAN! THIS “MERE WOMAN” DIED WITH HONOR AS A HERO TO THE AFGHAN PEOPLE! THE KILLERS ARE AN EMBARRASSMENT TO EVERYTHING SACRED AND THE AFGHAN PEOPLE.
May God* bless her soul.
One would hope that at least three qualified applicants will step-forward to pick-up her job.
In any society worth saving, this is what would happen. I’m hopeful, but not too optimistic. We’ll see.
*Not Allah, he obviously doesn’t give a shit.
Am I the only one to think that the society advocated by the Taliban isn’t worth saving? Granted, I shouldn’t judge another and perhaps their moral code is every bit as valid as my own, etc…
My moral code doesn’t include murder. For being a woman. With a job.
Theirs does.
Some say that we’re poorer for having certain species extinct. The passenger pigeon, the dodo bird, the mammoth. Perhaps, had they lived, our lives would be a little better somehow.
The Taliban? Somehow I doubt they’d be missed, nor our status be less if they were gone.
The real question, here, is why haven’t they been killed by the Afghans already.

Incidentally, remember when the Taliban blew up those 100 foot-tall statues of Buddah? Remember the shock and consternation throughout the world? How dare these simpletons destroy such great works of art, such monuments to human achievement, why darned near one of the seven wonders of the world?
What was the response?

Yeah. For those unwilling to fight for their cause, their approval or disapproval is worth about as much as a bucket of warm spit. They’re fair-weather friends and hardly worthy as enemies. They are best ignored, as there simply *has* to be something more important to be concerned about.

If you can get your hands on it (it is out of print) read “Afghanistan, where God only comes to weep” The story of a Woman’s struggle from before the Soviet Union invaded up to the weeks before the US became a presence. An emotional read but, after my months there, an admittedly accurate portrait.
