(can you call them both? never mind.) The incoming class were all given 1984 at the orientation in July (those that attended) and told that a 500 word essay on one of several questions, their choice, was due the first week of classes. The deadline was pushed back...and back...but I was glad to see them reading it. I knew the basic story but had never stopped to read it...started it as soon as she finished. I find it terrifyingly real, so I haven't finished yet.
