Dangerous Company

The tradition of generous Arab hospitality to their guests is justifiably celebrated, but some guests – like fish – smell more than bad after a few of days. In fact, their company can be downright toxic:

A U.S. strike on a network of foreign fighters in Syria led to the capture of an Al Qaeda coordinator who was wanted for sending operatives, weapons and cash into Iraq, a U.S. official told FOX News.

Abu Ghadiyain, Al Qaeda’s senior coordinator operating in Syria, was captured after Sunday’s attack in Sukkariyeh, which left eight dead about 4-5 miles away from Syria’s border with Iraq, the official said. Ghadiyain was believed to be associated with the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq…

The Syrian government said four U.S. military helicopters attacked a civilian building under construction shortly before sundown in Sukkariyeh — a village about five miles inside the Syrian border.

A U.S. military official in Washington confirmed Sunday that special forces had conducted a raid in Syria that targeted the network of Al Qaeda-linked foreign fighters moving through Syria into Iraq.

“We are taking matters into our own hands,” the official told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the political sensitivity of cross-border raids.

The attack is another sign that the United States is aggressively launching military raids across the borders of Afghanistan and Iraq to destroy insurgent sanctuaries. In Pakistan, U.S. missile strikes have killed at least two senior Al Qaeda operatives this year and ramped up the threat to groups suspected of plotting attacks on Western troops in Afghanistan and terror strikes in the West.

Collateral damge complaints should be sent to the Iraqi embassy in Damascus, where – considering the holocaust foreign fighters transiting Syria have wreaked upon the Iraqi civil populace – I’m sure they will be treated with the exactly that deference they deserve.

Root and branch, baby.

“Now neighboring countries have a good reason to be concerned about the continued U.S. presence in Iraq,” Kurdish politician Mahmoud Othman told the AP.

Quick! Somebody call in Maxine Waters to mediate!

Am I the only one that sees the humor having a Kurd make that statement? Maybe someone might remind him that having a certain country to the north of his homeland afraid of doing anything that could be considered hostile (specifically to his ethnic group) is a good thing.

“We are taking matters into our own hands.”

If nothing else, the simple statement, above, both made my day and justified my vote 4 years ago. This finally, FINALLY, is what we should have been doing and saying all along. You’re with us or you are a target – I’d bet this attitude could get great results if only The One wasn’t being touted as the new head guy. :(

Thank you, anonymous but wonderful person. I needed this.

only question is why did it take this long to grow some testes for this type of action. they have been using this sanctuary for a long long time. good to finally take some action.

I’m not too concerned about how long it has taken to do this. It’s going to happen more and more as January gets closer. Next Tuesday is another trigger point (no pun intended) I’d wager.

Wonder what they are thinking in Teheran?
