Provide by a concerned reader from the Commonwealth of Virginia – It ain’t over ’til it’s over, soljer:
The State of Virginia announced that a number of Uniformed Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) members submitted Federal Write-In Absentee Ballots (FWAB) which will not be counted due to administrative errors. Virginia requires FWABs submitted as both an absentee ballot application and as a voted ballot contain both the witness’ signature and the witness’ address to be counted in the General Election. Having consulted both FVAP and the Virginia Absentee Voter Office, we recommend that voters who submitted the FWAB as both their application and their ballot complete a Federal Postcard Application (FPCA) and email it to their county voter registration office NLT 1700 28 OCT 08. Once the FPCA arrives, the voted ballot already on hand becomes valid and will be counted. The Army Voting Action Officer is emailing this information to the Senior Voting Assistance Officers (SVAOs) and Installation Voting Assistance Officers (IVAOs) for dissemination and action by voters.
See your Unit Voting Assistance Officer (UVAO) for assistance.
That’s like, tomorrow. Today.
Get busy.

FWIW, Fairfax County registrar interview on the radio this AM indicated that only 6 of the ballots in question were military. Still 6 too many and the Commonwealth’s AG has said the federal law (not requiring the address) trumps the county’s…more to follow, we’re sure.

Based on what I got from Vickie Williams, at the VA Board of Elections, in an e-mail last week they had 42 of the “bad forms”. If that number is right and the one SJS quotes above is right, then 36 of them have been resolved.
Still leaves 6 and the hubris of the State of VA to think they can ignore federal law.
And I’m left wondering – what is the truth these days when it comes to politics and elections.
Time magazine this week had an article on the myriad ways election machines and procedures/rules vary from state to state, leading to inevitable SNAFUs.
I don’t know why we can’t change the Constitution if needed and create national standard ballot formats, procedures and machines so we’re all on the same page.
Fairfax… being my “home county” *sigh*
The ba$tard$ are still trying to steal this election!
You mean they can’t “take the day off” to vote as many times as they can get away with?
Usfolk have become second class citizens — only one vote if we can to cast it.
They aren’t stealing the election — gummint “officials” at all levels are giving it away.
Election night (and the days following) should be fun when every close state is litigated and @#$@ like this comes up.
