U.S.NAVY MEMORIAL TO OBSERVE VETERANS DAY

Veterans Day commemoration activities

WHEN
Tuesday, November 11, 2008
1:00 PM Wreath Laying Ceremony by the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard and Navy Band

2:30 PM “World War II Radio Show” Live Concert. For one hour, be transported back to the 1940s. Local entertainers “Make A Scene Music” will recreate the atmosphere of a WWII era radio show as performed by “Maxine and LaVerne Andrews,” accompanied at the keyboard by their sister, “Patty.”

The “Andrews Sisters” will answer requests from the mailbag for musical dedications, reviving memories from those who served during WWII. This interactive program involves the “radio studio” audience with requests, sing-alongs and trivia questions from the era. It’s fun for all ages, but especially seniors and veterans. Some of the songs performed will include popular 1940s hits such as “Don’t Sit Under the Appletree,” “Sentimental Journey,” and “I’ll Be Seeing You,” along with patriotic favorites like “You’re A Grand Old Flag” and “God Bless America.”

Lex–I’ve never commented here, but today I thought this post a good one to let you know American Greeting Card out of Cleveland, Ohio has a range of Veteran’s Day cards to send our far and wide-for each service arm and ones without a service distinction. Maybe these have been around more years than a few, and everyone knew about them but me. Still, figured its a good time to pass the word about a company that supports our troops and veterans….

Lisan, welcome to the site. Glad to have you amongst Lex’s occasional readers.

Man, I miss all the good stuff. As soon as I hit the lottery I’m buying my own jet so I can attend these things.

I’ve been to many of the memorials in and around Washington, but didn’t know about the Navy Memorial. I’ll have to look for it next time I’m back East. Whcih could be a while.
