Targets of Opportunityblog advertising is good for you Credo"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones "Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra" "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche "A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke “You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier "Μολὼν λαβέ" -- Leonidas "Blogito Ergo Sum" -- Neptunus Lex Amazon AssociateFor the Effort!Winnar!![]() Subscribe![]() CategoriesPagesTagsacademy

Neat office. I guess it woldn’t matter much having the side stick controller on the left, they probably fly it by programming the computer mostly anyway.
I’m wondering what the large gray oblong objects are on the center, lower panel. For resting a hand on while pushing one of those dozens of tiny buttons?
Lots of room, especially compared to the older planes where they shoe horned a flight engineer behind the pilots.
Really impressive. Clicking, dragging, and then violently flinging the mouse off to one side of the screen makes for a fun time too.
@Idaho Joe: I’d guess you’re spot on about the handrests. There appear to be buttons just in front of those things, probably a mouse/directional pad type do0-dad down there as well. I’m guessing it’s to prevent people from making entries that could affect the flight with their elbows.
Idaho & Drew – the handhold is probably a trackball mouse to interact with the several Active Flight Displays in front of them. I work on similar systems for biz jets.
Notice the pic of the A/C in the screen at the top of the pedistal – looks like there’s a forward looking camera in the top of the tail – wonder if it’s fixed or trainable. Pretty nifty to have in certain situations.
Brian
I don’t see the pilot’s rudder/brake pedals. Those for the right seat are clearly visible.
Oh well. The co-pilot has to have something to do.
I love how, even with all the super fancy technology onboard, the door stop behind the pilot’s seat is still held together with some EB-red tape.
some things never change.
Why does only the pilot get a HUD?
@Brian: Thanks. I’ve been trying to track down an overhead view or layout diagram for the A380 cockpit that showed this in some detail. I’m thinking you just answered the question.
@FastNav: Not to mention the sign on the door held up with some relatively plebian masking tape. You’d think they could get a proper document holder or pull the thing off of the door for the photograph.
Did they get the seat covers at J. C. Whitney?
Don, More likely … J. C.Higgins …along with the masking tape…uber tackey …indeed. Best
Love the A380s you can see out the windows.

Once upon a time I read somewhere that the right seat to left seat transition doesn’t take a lot of effort, and that anyone flying other A3XX series jets can make the transition in very short order due to gadget commonality.
Anyone remember the vid shot of the first landing at LAX? Whoa! A whole lotta boot when it yawed left. Must be nice to be comfortable with an A/C of that size.
Those are arm(wrist) rests according to a A380 pilot on Airwarriors forums. This was posted a little while ago. Very nice office.
Not too hard to go from right seat (“Normal” controls – stick in right, thrust in left) to left seat (opposite – afu). I just did my type rating stuff in left seat after 4 years in right. Not a big deal.
Manly – Captain’s rudder pedals are forward. They are there, you just can’t see them.
Don – those are standard Airbus seat covers. Why they can’t do leather is beyond me!
SSG Jeff – Captain gets hud because at most airlines, Captain is the PF for CAT II and CAT III approaches. (Low/No vis).
