A Man Without A Moment

Much petted liberal propagandist and part-time fabulist Michael Moore has apparently eaten through his profits from Fahrenheit 9/11, and is busily prepping a new mockumentory highlighting what he evidently expects to be the fin de siècle Americain:

The untitled movie will contain an end-of-the-empire tone, say those familiar with the project, and Moore no doubt hopes that this will give it a more general feel that will untether it from a specific political moment.

Politics, like nature, abhors a vacuum – something always rushes in – but although the decline of the United States to the status of an ordinary nation would ordinarily gratify those who bridle when their patriotism is questioned Moore’s timing may be off. You see, everything’s changed, changed utterly – a terrible beauty is born:

(Some) political and entertainment experts wonder how much Moore’s incredulousness and occasional pessimism about the state of U.S. policy, which served the filmmaker well during the George W. Bush years, will play in the current hopeful climate brought on President-elect Barack Obama.

“If Moore offers a prescription for how to improve things, he may indeed find an audience that at this moment is eager for change,” said Craig Minassian, an entertainment consultant and former Bill Clinton aide. “But it’s going to be hard for him. What this election shows is what’s right with America, and sometimes what Michael Moore does is highlight what’s wrong with America.”

Incredulousness and pessimism is so nine days ago. We’ve got change now, and everything’s going to be fine. Barack Obama’s coming to set everything aright, children. So step away from the window, and stop worrying your pretty heads. Go back to sleep.

And as for Mr. Moore? I suppose he will just have to make do until 2012.

  • Lex, is your post title a reference to the old Goffin/King song?

You’ve caught me out, Kathy. I threw a bit of Yeats and A Perfect Circle in there too.

    Feeling whimsical, I guess.

  • I wasn’t familiar with the Yeats poem, although now that I’ve read it, it’s beautiful.

But I don’t run into too many people who know “Man Without a Dream.” Goffin/King is my favorite songwriting team, and “Man Without a Dream,” imo is one of the best songs they ever wrote.

    It was a lovely combination.

And when you think about it, the amazing thing about Yeat’s poem is that he lauds John MacBride in a back hand way, himself executed by the British after the Irish Easter uprising in 1916.

MacBride stole the heart of Yeats’ great love, Maud Gonne, and treated her poorly. He forgives the man he hated because he sacrificed himself for Ireland.

Yeats married, but he never quite got over Maude Gonne.

Okay, you two, dance over. I’m cuttin’ in…

Notwithstanding your obsession with poets and such, the aforementioned munificently (I looked it up. It’s legitimate.) morose Michael ( Hereafter Mcubed) leaves so much to be desired regarding, umm, I think the word is fact, that I wonder how any part of America gives what he says any credibility…

Ohhh, wait a minute, that would be the same America who voted for That One…damn…sorry, folks…eradicate, incinerate, obliviate all of the above…which I’m sure the, ummmm, Fairness Doctrine will probably do for you.

Lex are you going to archive the site, or let it be ‘Fairirized’ first? Sorry, new word this time..

Geez, what’s a guy to do and remain patriotic? start his own blog? Hmm…any recommendations? I was kind of wondering if I need to fill out that 63 page form to start the blog. Or was that form just for getting paid to ask permission start a blog?

Darn this Ciclon…I’m so confused! Help! Someone help me! Help me be Fair and Patriotic! Puhleezz!

Mongo: It does make one wonder about the legislation concerning citizen bloggers who host offshore, doesn’t it? And all other manner of media, for that matter, what with everything on the planet being connected live via satellite.

  • Say what you want about Michael Moore, he was right about one thing…..”Americans are stupid.”

Or at least the majority of them were on Nov 4.

in the spirit of change, i am happy to declare Michael Moore a eunuch.

“What this election shows is what’s right with America, and sometimes what Michael Moore does is highlight what’s wrong with America.”

That sentence may have the highest concentration of stupidity of any ever uttered… it is super-saturated with cluelessness. I can feel my IQ drop a point every time I attempt to read it.

    … and I prefer “crockumentary”.

  • By the way, Lex, your new commenting system is way cool. I love the photo capacity.

Lex … you call Michael Moore “A Man Without a Moment” … let’s not dignify him. He’s more like a fly without a swatter.
