Russia ‘pinning hopes on Obama’
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has said he hopes US President-elect Barack Obama will help rebuild the strained relations between their two countries.
In a speech in Washington, Mr Medvedev said that a new US administration might be able to address what he described as a lack of “necessary mutual trust”.
He said he wanted to meet Mr Obama soon after he takes office in January.
Of course, January is after the November visits of the Russian president to notable US allies Cuba and Venezuela.
Hope is the worst of evils, for it prolongs the torments of man. — Friedrich Nietzsche

I seem to remember hearing about a man who beat the Russians almost two decades ago, bringing an end to the Cold War. I also recall he was frequently quoted as saying: “Trust, but verify.”
I hope the new administration shares the policy.
Then I am spared the worst of evils.
Medvedev: “Obama= doormat”
Hmmmmmm. Charismatic Senator, with a glamourous wife, wins the Presidency, and the world is full of hopenchange. Meets with the Russian oligarch, without preconditions, within six months. Unmitigated disaster, which the newbie characterizes as “I’ve got a terrible problem if he thinks I’m inexperienced and have no guts.” Six months later, international challenge, with no response. Six months after that, nuclear missiles sixty miles off our shores.
His biographer goes on to say, “He now needed to convince (the oligarch) that he could not be pushed around, and the best place currently to make U.S. power credible seemed to be in (a war zone).”
I am sure all of you can recognize the parallels, and make the necessary substitutions.
With Hilary Clinton being considered as the Sec. of State, and the Stalinist / Leninist / Democrat party shaping foreign policy, the only question in my mind is – will BO petition for us to be annexed to China, Russia, Mexico or Iran, as a suburb? Perhaps whichever one offers him the biggest slice of the pie?
