Initiative + / Execution -

Those saucy lads at Woops Point thought for to pull one over on the heirs to Porter, Farragut, Decatur and Somers over at the Trade School on the Severn in the run-up to the terrible beating they are about to receive in what? 17 hours, 43 minutes and 35 seconds.

For these their tawdry efforts they commissioned for their use some class of slow moving target and a crate full of common litter.

A little bit of advice for you fellers, and much may it profit you in the future: Always check winds at release altitude. Ye plumbers, ye oafs, ye knuckle dragging, beetle-browed, muddy-booted cadets!!1!

“A messmate before a shipmate,
A shipmate before a stranger,
A stranger before a dog,
But a dog before a sojer!”

Littering…good job Army. That oughta motivate your boys. We’ll see you tomorrow.

  • Adeodatus

EXCELLENT job of dropping on target, Army. You knuckleheads are the Bill Buckners of the military.

  • Kevin

Middies are getting a MUC for being students? Or is that just for staff?

  • lex

Can’t help but think that second one is a little, you know: Ghey.

  • FbL

LMAO! Lex, you might want to double-check…

  • FbL

    Dys-LEX-ia strikes again, I see… ;)

(ed. Why, whatever do you mean, dear?)

  • aeroeng

They’re getting a MUC for “record low plebe-summer attrition” among other things… Is that a sign that admissions is getting better or that the rigor of the indoctrination process has decreased?

  • Klams

Pretty funny watching that from the other side…

With SATs having dumbed down and scores in free fall since 1963; 60% of all undergraduate grades at Harvard A- or better, and nightly examples of social “research” on Lenno’s “J-Walking,” with virulent PC shot through not only society, but ALL the service branches, what do YOU think? Perchance BOTH admissions AND institutional rigor have been watered down–Ya think maybe, just MAYBY?

Los Cadets musta whined expressed concern, cause the video went away! That’s really low.

Cousins galore in this family. Dad’s cousin Jerry is a retarded retired NavAir AV8er. Daughter #’s 1&2 went Army, one an OB/GYN and the other a Helo Hottie. Cousin Loren (Different line of parents) is Navy ‘78 and a phormer phantom phlyer. Yours truly proudly wore the EG&A.

Ya think we could get a family feud going over this game? Huh? Do ya?!?

Virg, I take that dumbed down SATS thing in a wholly different context; they took away our cat in ‘76. But then I’ve always lived in a different world…

Threadjack, but this is too funny to pass up: Hitler in Foreclosure

  • MissBirdlegs in AL

The video is also found at (I don’t know how to do the linky thing):
    http://www.wtop.com/?nid=25&sid=1539362

At least it was there a little bit ago.

    Lex:

The second is more than a little ghey. Go Navy!

  • xairboss (alias) E Yat

Miss B, the Army/Navy is on at noon EST, 11 CST. That should allow you and yours to watch Navy slaughter Army and just in time to see the Gators humiliate the Red Elephants at 4 EST. Geaux Tigers, Sabin will desert you at the same first opportunity like he did LSU. Don’t trust him for a moment.

  • American football is a very stupid game. At least it’s not as bad as soccer, or golf.

I think that the athletic rivalry between the Naval Academy and the Military Academy should be fought, and decided, with swords.

  • P.s. I betcha the Midshipmen would win that contest.

  • xairboss (alias) E Yat

I think it should be decided with three irons hitting to an elevated green 190 yards over water. Even 70 year olds can do this. Well, not me and I’m not 70. I’m more likely to shoot my weight rather than my age.

  • FbL

I think it should be decided with three irons hitting to an elevated green 190 yards over water.

Well, at least that way the USAFA could participate, too… ;)

*looking cautiously around for members of the USAF*

Come on, you expected me to pass up that kind of low-hanging fruit? ;)

  • USAF carrier with GOLF Course for Flight Deck photo somewhere on the web (colorado) springs to mind.

  • Quartermaster

    Steal the Goat next time.

  • Looks like they shoulda popped smoke first. Went well wide of the Navy assembly area.

  • Dan

For the record, they totally missed the formation, as you can see their “trash” went all over Stribling Walk. Our ‘Dant, a Naval Aviator himself, heartily made fun of them and said Naval Aviators would have been on target.

Still better than Air Force’s pranks.

And w/r to the MUC, keep in mind the criteria for a MUC is to perform better than other units with similar missions, and the plebe summer attrition was only a part of it. At first I thought it was kind of hokey, until some of my Marine professors did bring up the points they do believe the whole part about changing the Academy to make it more fleet-mission focused is true and we should wear it with pride. Keep in mind, the Naval Academy’s mission statement includes excellence in moral, mental, and physical education, and if you look at a sampling of awards in those three categories (which is in the MUC citation), I’d say we are indeed excelling in those areas.

  • Dan

Oh, and GO NAVY BEAT ARMY!

  • Curtis

Wow! A MUC for going to school and engaging in diversity. Phib’s going to produce a flaming cow!

I’m looking forward to seeing the new DIVERSITY Warfare insignia. It will probably be even more gaudy than the Budweiser pin.

I think I would be ashamed to wear a Diversity MUC.

  • I remember the last time Canoe U. got a MUC. From Wiki:

To justify this award, the unit must have performed service of a character comparable to that which would merit the award of a Bronze Star Medal…

Dan, how many ROTC units get MUCs? How many A schools? I’m betting none, or darn near.

More to the point: How many units at sea, or on IA, or otherwise deployed right now and doing a hard job well at real risk don’t get MUCs?

  • To paraphrase XBradTC,

Nothing against the Boat School ‘cept for the Ensigns they sent me/us. :-)

    XTC,
That was laugh of the day for me yesterday.

  • MaxDamage

I dunno, I watched both videos listed with as best an open mind as I could muster. The Navy video was OK, tried to do that Mission Impossible thing and had some pretty good editing, all in all not a bad effort for a college video.

Army? I kept waiting for The Iron Giant to appear. Or an overlay saying “Touchstone Pictures, if it’s not heart-warming it’s crap.”

Ya, kinda ghey. They’re supposed to be warfighters, that whole shock and awe thing where they’re so busy changing the battlefield the enemy can’t keep up. Instead I get a video of, well, I can’t quite say what but it looks like a guy from the SCA or perhaps Monty Python trying to hook up with a college freshman wearing his PJ’s.

    Not exactly, you know, inspiring.

Let’s see if they can do better in the match this afternoon.

    SPAZ,

Lex had that pic of the carrier golf course
posted circa 2005, as I remember. Should be in the archives.

  • RonF

Yow. If this was a fight it would have been stopped.

  • RetRsvMike

you just wait until next year!

    (scurvy squids)

  • aeroeng

I guess I should have included (note the sarcasm) in my comment about the MUC. I’m pretty sure that both are true.

  • jweb

I would have been embarrassed to release that video. Wasting all that fuel only to make a drop that was clearly way off target…as was the score.

    I demand an investigation! :-)

  • …and folks wonder why Army hasn’t been given back fixed wing TACAIR for close air support…
    - SJS

  • RetRsvMike

Steeljaw: and yet, by naval standards, although they didn’t “hit” the target, it would be scored as “suppression”.

  • lex

Army coach says “Navy is smarter”:

Brock said he would love to add speedier players. But he also said that the Midshipmen had another notable advantage Saturday, saying, “I think we are probably similar in athletic ability, but mentally, Navy is stronger, quite honestly.”

He also says he intends to “stick with the plan” after a 3-9 season.

    Me? I’m thinking “resume time”.

  • [...] Lex has a critique of West Point’s Helicopter ‘attack’ on Naval Academy in “Initiative + / Execution -“. This was part of the run-up to the annual Army-Navy football game. Navy has been on a run [...]
