Thesis work this morning:
The Naval Enterprise has – albeit in a much broader perspective – the same responsibilities as does a TYCOM; to train, maintain, man and equip naval forces. The inclusion of Commander, US Fleet Forces Command (CFFC) as a member of the “provider” domain at the Naval Enterprise level is something of anomaly, however.
CFFC has a dual responsibility to CNO to train, man and equip Atlantic Fleet forces and an operational responsibility to US Joint Forces Command to provide trained forces for the COCOMs – CFFC’s provider role is therefore outside the CNO’s direct domain; in the joint force arena, ultimately to the combatant commanders.
Uniquely, at the next level down in the hierarchy, CFFC becomes the lead element (in partnership with the Commander, US Pacific Fleet) of the Fleet Readiness Enterprise, or FRE. Other, more traditional “provider” domains always retain their provider roles, albeit at an ever more granular level of execution. CFFC’s move from supported to supporting recognizes the importance of the joint arena, and – it is to be hoped – helps to modulate the COCOM demand signal for forces.
As supported and supporting triangles multiply, complexity increases.
Gripping, innit? It goes on like that for a hundred pages. In case you’re wondering why it canna be finished in this life.
And three flights this afternoon.
So: Talk amongst yourselves.
Update: Good game, yah? Now we can all be friends again.

Come on Lex, who you fooling? NAVY-army game on and you’re working on your thesis? I don’t think so.
Me? I watching my PIRATES vs tulsa for CUSA championship. With a Navy game in the PIP.
“Good game,” Lex? It was a great game! On top of which, Navy won [whoopee!] What we liked about it was that it was so hard fought, that even when Navy was so far ahead, Army fought just as hard as they did in the beginning, that it showed what great thoroughbreds our young military guys are, and made us so very proud. No dirty tricks, nasty hits, or bad behavior involved. Class, all the way.
And it was great to see Bush enjoying himself so unguardedly, being such a good guy. Left us with smiles on our faces, and patriotic pride in our hearts.
God bless us, every one.
Marianne
My condolences on the thesis, Lex. Just finished mine, so I can appreciate the feelings you’re going through.
Back to football. and… you know… wondering how Missou and Oklahoma feel about reviewing game tape of their opponent being beaten by Texas. :: Shakes fist at football gods ::
I keft thinking…those Army guys in their new camouflage…they could’nt run AND they couldn’t hide.
Opportunity for education AND the Army/Navy game. Life’s curve this week is emergency divert from business in SD to Grapevine, TX (which I believe is not far from where our host was kicking about and sniffing around). Had to do a crash course on acute renal failure which Mom apparently has unexpectedly experienced. As she rests following dialysis and a biopsy, I peruse the web for medical info and pause to breathe here. With the game on. It’s a funny, small world of coincidences and miracles. Hoping for some of the latter. B.
Prayers for your mom from here, bc. I believe in miracles.
We wish you miracles too, bc. Texas is fortunate in having great medical centers, some of the best in the world, and I pray that they’ll benefit your Mom.
Marianne
Army loss? More like destruction of Army Group Center! Pay back for the littering mission.
bc, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your mom. We all delight with victory of our favorite team but nothing gives us greater satisfiction that having a positive outcome for your mom. God speed.
Hopefully; somewhere in those hundred pages there is a significant discussion of the armed destruction of one’s enemies: both foreign and domestic.
BC? Hopes and prayers are with you and yours.
– Max
BC, prayers said, and will be said for her.
And in other news, the Florida Gators fought a battle for the ages against Alabama, until finally the Crimson tide simply broke on Tim Tebow’s will. That young man is something special. What I watched last night WAS the national championship!
You could sum up your thesis in one sentence: The Naval Aviation Enterprise took things that were working, and broke them. But they did not get rid of any Flag officers though.
TYCOM?
CFFC?
CNO?
FRE?
COCOM?
Don’t they require your work to be in English? Good luck with it.
And I agree with Byron about the Gators-Alabama game. Tebow is some kind of force of nature.
Byron, although I wasn’t happy with the final, that was a danged good ball game! I’m proud of both teams – and a little bit worn out from all the jumping and hollering I did yesterday!
Me too, Miss Birdlegs! And Tim Tebow has earned a second Heisman. After yesterdays incredible performance, only fools and blindmen can deny that he is the greatest football player in the land. I even heard a lot of Bronco Nagursky references last night!
Byron,
The weeping here in Alabama country is huge. The Sunday paper had a full page headline displaying the fact that Alabama got beat.
Could not have happened to a nicer bunch of guys………I was sick of the 12-0 stuff…….
Well, the Army does have that littering thing down pat, so, they got THAT going for them.
Skippy, can’t take a thing away from the Tide. They played a damned hard game, and only Tebow made the difference. He’s so good it’s almost scary…especially if you’re an Oklahoma fan
We just got home from 3 days in Phillie and had a great time. Friday afternoon we went to the pep rally in downtown. It was inside a shopping arcade which was a bonus. The place was packed but you could see the cheerleaders do all their stuff up close. The lifts, etc are really quite something. A woman standing next to me remarked “If I didn’t know better, I would think the cheerleaders were from any major college. They don’t look like killers.” No kidding!
I think we should start thanking Army for even showing up at this point. The drubbing they took was terrible. Toward the end of the third quarter I started rooting for Army. Make a touch down, a field goal, anything. Just get that goose egg off the board. Alas, not to be. The last Navy touch down, which was an interception and 68 yard run, was just icing on a bloody nose so to speak.
Fri evening we attended the Navy/U Penn basketball game. Navy won by 11 points. Toward the end of the game, Navy lobbed the ball in from the Penn basket past the center line where a player grabbed it and charged toward the Navy basket like a freight train. Just as he was going up to shoot he was crashed into with such force by a Penn player that he actually went airborne and crashed into the basket post. That was the worst foul I have ever seen. Thank God the posts are padded. Must have scrambled the kid’s brains as he lay there for a bit.
The game on Saturday was a blow out. We somehow parked deep in Army tailgate land but were allowed to pass unmolested
But yes, the pagentry and the spirit spots, what you don’t see on TV, is worth braving the cold. I so love it! There is nothing quite like being with 65,000+ of the most polite people on the face of the earth.
This morning we went down to Penn’s Landing. Navy brought along two destroyers to the party. We toured DDG 79, the Oscar Austin. This was particularly thrilling for us as our son is currently deployed on DDG 52, the Barry.
Oh, and all Mids including those on restriction but excluding those with duty back at the yard, were given liberty till 1800 today! Being a parent of an Academy grad, I don’t recall ever hearing that the restricted were given overnight liberty before.
All in all, a very fine Navy weekend!
That is ten times more boring than any Reactor Plant Manual I ever saw. Are you trying to corner the market as the newest sleep aid?
Ahh, no wonder it sounds so rotten. You let the chimpanzee write it while you watched the game. Now I get it. A+ then. At least you proved intelligent enough to do something useful with your time.
Subsunk
I may be crazy (or just self destructive) but I would love to see your thesis. If only to see the point, you can’t possibly be connecting the leg bone to the knee bone as the whole of your thesis.
So I imagine you are outlining the structure so you can, what’s that term, “use your green belt and lean six sigma the whole enterprise.
