Thanks, Lex. Never forget. Let all our enemies remember that no matter how soft we appear, that once attacked we can fight with an implacable will. Remember well what we did to Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan.

I remember my Dad today. He past away March, 2007. He could have died 67 yr. ago. He watched the Arizona blow up, across the way on the other side of Ford Island. I intend on wearing his Pearl Harbor “piss cutter” today.

Still makes me cry today. Thanks, Lex.

The memory has never been stronger within me.

May God send a blessing to RADM Isaac C. Kidd, Commander Battleship One, all others killed that day, and to their descendants.

    “On to Victory!”

My Grandfather, my namesake, was discharged from the Navy from his last command, USS Nevada. He took a commission in the Merchants as an Engineer. I have his discharge papers framed on the wall next to my shadow box. Funny, back then the discharge papers were lithograph quality with the details (dd214-ish) of the enlistment typed on the backside. The date of discharge, rate, rank, awards, etc. Not like the thin tissue quality DD214′s and newer computer generated forms of more recent times. Heavy, embossed with the ships seal, handwritten, typed, and real signatures in real ink. Very frame-worthy.

Oh, and about that discharge date? November 7th, 1941. Missed it by “that much”.

    I’ll always remember.

So many have forgotten — even 9/11/01!
Or they now believe that an attack on us was “our fault”.

We owe those who have paid for our freedom in body and blood more than it is possible to repay — except by ensuring that their sacrifices were not in vain.

I will NEVER forget and as long as I’m alive my children and their children will never forget what previous generations have done to ensure that our nation survives and the blessings they enjoy were paid for in the blood of others.

During my visits to the Arizona Memorial and the Submariners Memorial Park, I’ve always found myself overcome with a sense of reverence and gratitude for the sacrifices of those of that era.

Having been stationed at Kaneohe, there were opportunities aplenty to visit sites around the island where evidence of the opening day can be found. I’ve been to Wake Island and pondered what those valiant lads must’ve faced.

    Always remember…always remind others…always…

    Lex,

A moving and powerful video. Thank you.

Can you tell me what the music was in the background. It fit perfectly!

  • Heard the flyboys fly over this morning at 7:48am HST. I said a prayer and thanked God that my family is here and able to see our history up close and personal. We will never forget.

Last month, I had the privilege of attending a conference where Daniel Martinez was the guest speaker. What an incredible man and an incredible presentation. I wish I had made a video of it.

I was just 3 years old when my mother with me and my little twin brothers (just barely old enough to fly) spent many, many long hours facing backwards in a military C-121 (Lockheed Super Connie) from Moffet in California, to Hickam on Oahu, to Midway and then Wake, and then finally Guam, where we got stacked up in a holding pattern while we waited for B-52s returning from Vietnam to land. Wish I’d had been older and had the opportunity to explore like my father did earlier, or talk to old timers like he did. Though later when I was in the Air Force I did get to talk to one old gentleman who had been a Bataan Death March surviver who stayed in the Philippines.

The National Museum of the Pacific War is in Fredericksburg, Texas (hometown of Admiral Chester Nimitz) and every so often they hold special events for Veterans Day and Pearl Harbor Day. This year I met my parents there the weekend before Veterans Day and they were having live demonstrations of some of the weapons and equipment used, from .45 Colts to BARs and M1917 .30 MG and M1919 .50 HMG, to a flamethrower and Japanese small arms and machineguns. Quite a nice museum, currently undergoing renovation that will double their display space (and some of their artifacts are incredible, stuff I never thought would’ve survived). This year they also hosted the Pearl Harbor Survivors Reunion. I couldn’t make it, don’t know if my dad made it back down.
