Sure - these aren't ordinary times. War and economic downturn. Give a tip of the hat to the Chairman for focusing on wounded vets and drawing attention to those in harm's way during the holidays.

But holiday gatherings have always persisted in the face of adversity. And surely, Santa will visit this year in spite of the GM bailout and the war in Iraq/Afghanistan. I would even wager that the Chairman's social budget is unchanged from last year.

To not celebrate the season would be to give credence to the advice I recv'd from a submarine commander almost 20 years ago regarding what to do with a deployed crew on Christmas day. His answer: drill, drill, drill so that they don't have a chance to think about the holidays and miss their families.

We've been at war for seven years and my house has been over-valued for longer than that. So, Merry Christmas!
