We’re friends here. Those we’ve met, and those we’ve yet to meet. Those whom we agree with, and those we set at hammers and tongs.
Jim Cannon was a friend of ours. Guy Cannon’s son. He wrote at least 191 times here to share his viewpoints with us, under the flag of “Jim C.” The last time was four days ago.
Hosted a blog of his own. One of his last entries went thus:
We’ll, after a lengthy stay in the hospital I’m finally home. I spent about two weeks on the ventilator. It’s going to be a slow return to normal posting. Please bear with me.
That was on the 8th of November.
Tonight I got an email from Kris, in New England:
Lex – thought you might want to know that blogger Jim Cannon – of Thinking Right – and a frequent commenter at your site, passed away suddenly yesterday the 15th. He had recently been hospitalized for Guillain Barré Syndrome problems (he wrote about them on your blog in a comment some months ago) and had emailed me over the weekend that he was working hard and fighting to get back to health again. He was in his early 30s.
Grieve with us.

Requiescat in pace
There no words to say it. The whole “Family”, is in my thoughts and prayers, especially, at this time of year. I figure, the less I write, the better.
V/R- Grumpy
Damn, that’s a helluva thing to wake up to. I’d like to be able to say something of some small importance, but words escape me.
Lex or Kris, if possible, could you post an address to send cards or flowers to?
This is just so sad.
Lex – thank you for honoring Jim and his family. It is a horrible shock, especially since it was expected that he would be going home before the holidays. While Jim had been sick for a long time, his death was very unexpected.
AW1 Tim: Not sure about the address for cards. I found out thru a commenter and blogger at Jim’s site. I’ll go back to him today to see if he can provide something for our condolences.
At the very least, please visit Jim’s site – Thinking Right – and leave your thoughts there. I know his family reads them.
If I can get something more formal, I’ll be sure to update Lex and leave a comment.
What a shock! Am so sorry to hear this. My sincere condolences to GuyC and all Jim’s family and friends. We’ll certainly miss him here. Will be praying for them all.
I pray that God will comfort his family.
Deliver your servant, O Sovereign Lord Christ, from all evil, and set him free from every bond; that he may rest with all your saints in the eternal habitations; where with the Father and the Holy Spirit you live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
I can’t say it any better than Sid. He’s in a better place now, and I hope the Lord will bring comfort to his family.
Ref Sid’s and Byron’s sentiments : Amen. We are all just TDY, just some orders are longer than others. God Speed.
Rest in peace good man.
Godspeed.
“Here today, Gone tomorrow” was a common saying of my grandparent’s generation. When young, used to think it was trite–don’t anymore….
To say that we should all count our blessings (another old admonition) is an understatement. Sad occasions such as this really drive it home…
How sad. He was too young to go…
I heard from a friend of Jim’s today – a mailing address for cards and sympathies should be available soon.
Lex – if it’s OK with you I’ll e-mail it to you once I have it.
Oh no. How horribly sad. Our family will keep his family in our prayers.
Wish we could make the grieving easier for his family.
Rest in peace Jim
I will. RIP Jim C.
Very sorry to hear.
Thoughts and prayers to the family.
30′s – prime of life. Rest in peace my friend…
Rest in peace, my condolences.
Shockingly sad news. My sincere condolences.
That is indeed very sad. Got news that a friend, LCDR type, just passed away at a similar young age while underway.
Byron, while I agree to a point that he may be in a better place, I’d like to hang around a little longer here and watch my daughter grow up. Big Guy willing.
Thoughts and prayers with the family
