Senatorial Appointments

I don’t know much about Caroline Kennedy. Nor do I particularly care to learn more. Whomever the governor of New York selects to replace Hillary Clinton in the US Senate is between him, the party establishment and – ultimately – the voters of New York. All that said, it does seem that a state of nearly 20 million citizens ought to be able to look behind the cushions and find someone who is not named Kennedy – or Cuomo, for that matter – in order to demonstrate at least the façade an ethical fidelity to the demos, if not to disparage the notion of an hereditary political class.

VDH loves her less well:

Ms. Kennedy is about as undiverse as one could imagine. She was educated at exclusively private schools among those of her like race and class. Her financial security is due to either inheritance or marriage; there is no evidence of a self-employed stellar legal or business career. But there is plenty of evidence that Ms. Kennedy reflects the current Democratic Party’s obsession with celebrity and Hollywood-like imagery…

It’s apparent why some in her party seem so enthusiastic for Ms. Kennedy – she is, after all, the very opposite of that horrible woman.

It is interesting to contrast this political dynasty – the Kennedys – with another with similar, one might say more far reaching record of public service – the Bush family.

As far as I can tell it all started with Bush 41s father who was a Senator. Bush 41 had a resume as noted for its variety as for its depth – Congressman, Ambassador, CIA Head – all before ascending to become President. Two sons who were Governors with one the current President.

All benefited I am sure from their connections but all were elected to every elected post they served in as far as I can tell.

The Kennedy’s have history of this Entitlement thing going which has led to seats being handed up to them in any manner of NE states in uncontested primaries all in safe Democratic districts. Other then Ted, who has had a long and I will begrudgingly admit legislatively productive career, none of the second generation of Kennedys has distiguished themselves. That John and Robert were struck down leaves their legacy a qustion mark as far as to what they might have accomplished had the tragedies not occured.

So we have two families who, not lacking for money, have spent a lot of time being Public servants. One is treated as Royalty by the press and the mere fact a member expresses a desire for it is granted instant front-runner status for a vacent Senate seat. The other family is mocked and treated with the kind of bile that should never be part of any civil discourse.

Why is this? I’ll leave it to the reader to decide and opine on.

Barbara Bush, who strikes me as one not to take any guff off of anyone once noted when asked what was the difference between the Kennedys and the Bushes that, ” we don’t send out press releases….”.

That sums it up in a nutshell for me.

Elliot Spitzer doesn’t have a job, and a Senate seat would save the taxpayers the cost of locking him up.

  • AW1 Tim

And Spitzer, being a member of the world’s second oldest profession, certainly has experience dealing with the first. He ought to fit right in down there.

  • I am really amazed at how low the bar the Dem’s are setting WRT qualifications for office. Give the Great One has nearly nothing in his resume have sabotaged his way to the State Senate and once in the US Senate commenced to run for President. Now Princess Kennedy who is merely a well educated house Frau with name recognition.

I can only imagine what kind of favors and IOU’s the Great One owes to the many who helped him thus far. Coming from that cesspool of politics they call “the Land of Lincoln” it would only be considered business as usual.

At the same time the Princess, I am sure feels owed the seat by simply asking.

The other aspect is what I call “profiling the seat”; in this I mean that the seat vacated by The Great One is now owed to a democrat who is foremost a Black Man and in the case in New York it seems that this seat is owed to a democrat White Woman. And in the “First State” seems that seat will be owned by the Bidden family.

    Nothing like a democratic republic.

    BT: Jimmy T Sends.

    I am sure there

    Why Sweet Caroline?

    1. Name recognition.
    2. She’ll bring money to the party.
    3. She’ll get elected. Even if she can’t drink as much as Uncle Ted.

What has she done? Who cares!

These are the four statewide election winners for 2006 in NY:

    Governor: Eliot Spitzer
    Lieutenant Governor: David Paterson
    Comptroller: Alan Hevesi
    Attorney General: Andrew Cuomo

Only one of them is serving in the office he was elected to.

    I (heart) NY

It’s worse than you think. This has the potential to get ugly in a hurry. Andrew Cuomo was married to Kerry Kennedy, who was RFK’s daughter. She was having an affair with someone else who was poltically connected, and Andrew Cuomo and the aggrieved wife caught them at it. Cuomo and Kennedy underwent counseling, but Kennedy continued the affair. During the divorce proceedings, all of this was brought to light, and RFK jr, Kerry’s brother, became rather irate. Prior to this, RFK and Cuomo were actually good friends. No more. Basically, this is a fight between two factions of the Democratic party.

Either way, my state has beclowned itself, and I am weeping. I’d like to move, but for some reason, my wife actually likes it here.

Without clicking the link: Clinton or Palin ?

Democrats reached a diversity goal: Hate white women of two parties.

Next: Hate non-white women of two parties.

PS. Wanted: Woman of non-white background for political appointment, must have easily ridiculed characteristics (name, hair-do, accent, education, hobby). Candidates please apply to Dean, Chairman DNC.

    AW1 Tim,

You’d get very tired here in Albany. Not to mention incurring the wrath of EnCon.

    RPL,

“Either way, my state has beclowned itself, and I am weeping. I’d like to move, but for some reason, my wife actually likes it here.”

Funny, that’s why I’m here. At least we have the Adirondacks…

Hey, is Chelsea 30 yet? How ’bout her…

Muh ha ha ha ha ha ha

I’m waiting for the appointment of the ghost of Eleanor Roosevelt to the seat. Given the number of dead and otherwise life challenged people that religiously vote democrat they are owed some representation in Congress.
