Hopefully, you have by now completed your holiday shopping, gentle reader. And are now kicking yourself for having missed out on all the steep discounts everywhere on offer. Longtime readers know that this season has bittersweet connotations for your host. I’ve joyful memories of childhood anticipation, mature reflection on the meaning of the day and a hole in my life that will not be filled on this side of the veil.
But even in that there is hope.
Hard times all around, and they may get harder yet. We here at Chez Lex have done what we can to make sure that all those things that ought to be remembered may be remembered joyously and that our blessings may be counted in detail. I hope the same for all of you, my friends.
Walk while you have the light then, and remember that light which shines even in the darkness that the darkness knows not of.
Merry Christmas.

Thought of you this morning. Big hug to you.
Merry Christmas, Lex, to you and yours and to all our friends who visit here. God Bless us All!
Merry Christmas to you and yours as well.
I’m not ashamed to admit that reading this blog and comments herein are a highlight of my day, even though I rarely have anything to add to the discussion.
Happy Holidays to all.
Jeopardy’s comment is echoed by all, I’m sure. Peace to each and every one.
May you and your family have Quite Merry Christmas Captain…
And to my fellow commenting denizens…Merry Christmas To All!
Lex – fondest and deepest wishes for a holiday filled with the laughter that only good and lovely memories can bring.
And I add my own wishes for all – for a fun and festive holiday.
Merry Christmas to you, Lex, and your entire family and friends around the world.
May the New Year be better than any of us could wish for or believe possible.
We are all in His Hands, whether we know it or not. And we must keep the faith, for down through history evil events have a way of bearing good fruits in the long term.
And may God bless us, each and every one.
This year has also been quite hard on my family too. However, as I told the kids, there is much to be thankful for. Among their many friends, we are the only ones who live in a house vice an apartment. Each has their own room. We have a roof over our heads, and food on the table. They have clean clothes to wear, and a warm bed to sleep in. Some folks don’t have even that. They have parents who care very much for them, and, for some kids, that’s not available either.
We don’t own a car. Can’t afford one at the moment, but with things close by and a city bus system and the occasional cab, it all works out.
There will always be something under the tree, in the stocking, and a good meal on the table. That we have what we do is something to always be grateful for, for there are always others with less. I see it every day at the local soup kitchen.
All in all, despite everything, we’ve been lucky and blessed, and I hope for as much and more for all of you as well.
Merry Christmas, and a good and profitable New Year!
Merry Christmas to all my friends, wherever you are. Good people such as yourselves will surely have a terrific New Year. Always remember to have faith in Him, for so long as you do, He will be at your side.
Lex and all,
Thank you all for the readings. I guess we all beklieve this webspace is more than a mere diversion (funny how comfy you get when surrounded by folks that discuss all manner of topics in a civil manner.)
To our host, I wish continued success in his new world, and may that success extend to his family.
I have a few details to finish up for this year — I’m in my best dust-free whites and face mask. Then tomorrow begins a period with family. They need it as do I, it’s been that kind of year.
Merry Christmas to you all!
And yet another Merry Christmas to you and your family, Lex. I truly hope you will be able to focus on the joy in those childhood memories and on the memories you are creating at the moment.
But I definitely understand the tinged with sadness part. More so than ever before. It’s been a different kind of Christmas already at our house this year and yet we soldier on. Life does go on and on and on ….
But enough of that. Merry Christmas to Lex, his family and all those fine regulars who inhabit these parts. May it be peaceful, joyful and bring a smile to your faces when you reflect upon it.
Merry Christmas Lex and the best to your family.
Despite all the promises for change, we can be thankful for He who kept His Word on this day and brought the greatest of all changes to this world.
Best wishes to all Lex readers for the New Year.
Merry Christmas, Cap’n!
And his colorful retinue of commenters.
God bless us, everyone.
In this season of remembrance of a man who came to earth to bring us the only hope and change that matters for all eternity, I wish Lex, his family, and all my fellow denizens of this commentariat, a very joyous Chrismas and a prosperous New Year. May all of you know the grace and peace of Christ in the coming year.
Shopping?
Wait, was there something I missed?
I hope 7-11 is still open!
Merry Christmas, may Babbo Natale visit all of you gentle readers (and Chez Lex) and reward you all for being good little boys and girls.
Take care, Captain.
Lex ~ My thoughts are with you and your family, always but today in particular.
Merriest of Christmases to all! May the blessings of the season shine down upon you all.
Like many of you, there will be an empty place at the table for us as well and a hole that will never be filled. But the hope is that our loved ones are near us, even if we cannot see them.
Merry Christmas to you and yours as well and
Merry Christmas to all the readers here.
The holidays are always a bittersweet but very special time … remembering lost family and friends…and celebrating the season with those closest to you…
so a great big Merry Christmas to you all ( or is it y’all?) and again say one for the troops…God bless them …every one. Best
PS, Hey Zane, I expect LaBefana has a stocking full of charcoal reserved for your smart-ass on the 6th of January.
Lex, Merry Christmas to You, Yours, & and the highly esteemed LORC, God Bless!
Christmas blessings to Lex and all my friends here at Lexblog. (It’s interesting that I can ‘know’ and appreciate so many I’ve never met. No biases on age, ethnicity, gender or looks. Just sincerity and honesty. Little bit of heaven, huh?)
A Blessed and Joyful Christmas to one and all.
Like Tim, things have not been good. Can’t buy a job for myself (IT) or the Lady Katherine (RN) and the savings are gone. However, we have each other our two twin Chocolate Labs, children and grandchildren and, thus, all is right with the world.
May the Spirit of Christmas follow you through to the New Year.
Oh, and Snake, Orthodox Christians don’t do stockings on 6th Jan. They leave such frivolity for St. Nicholas Day (25th December).
Best to you and your family, Sir. You have enriched my life with your writings again this year, for which I am thankful. Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas, y’all!
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Lex. And to all who visit your fine blog… commenters or not.
I think someone said it earlier, but I’ll echo the comment; Lex your blog has become a must read every day. Thanks for all of gray matter exercise – from all of the contributors here as well.
Merry Christmas to all may there only be coal for heating purposes.
Merry Christmas Lex and all the fine contributors to this site.
Please say a prayer for all the Navy ships at sea on this fine day. We are all truly blessed by those that stand watch so we may celebrate in peace.
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Lex, and to all who participate here. Visiting your site is a daily habit for me as well.
Merry Christmas to all. Especially to those who find themselves deployed on our behalf.
May God Bless All here and may tomorrow bring a brief respite and a bit of real joy your lives. Got mine this evening holding my first grandson at his first Christmas Mass. Don’t need anything else. I’m good. Wishing all a share of the same.
What a time indeed. Even as I mourn over the loss of my eldest son, I rejoice over the fact that we celebrate the entry of the King of King and Lord of Lords into this sin-filled world. How wonderful it is to know that my God in Heaven sent His only son to to save this world from sin if we would only call upon Him and ask for His forgiveness.
Lex, thank you for opening the doors of your blog for our reading enjoyment. Those of us that have our own blogs understand how much work goes in the preparation of an article for publication. It is greatly appreciated by all of us.
Merry Christmas to all.
Merry Christmas to all, and may the coming year be filled with happiness.
Lex, your wonderful family, and all the courteous and kindly commenters on this site … My computer motherboard gave up the ghost two days ago, so I’m writing this on my husband’s laptop and so it won’t get through to you. Had to write and thank you for making my life so much better and happier this year, with all your delightful and insightful comments on the world, its problems and joys and sorrows. Thank you all … and especially our genial and remarkable host.
You all are truly a joy to me. Joy to you all.
Marianne
Merry Christmas y’all…

Merry Christmas all…
Merry Christmas Lex, family of Lex and LORCs everywhere!
Guy ~ I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you and your family.
Frohe Weihnachten, everyone!
Merry Christmas to all.
To all who abide within the confines of Chez Lex Feliz Navidad, Mele Kalikimaka, and the Merriest of Christmases.
To those who wear the uniform and stand at the ramparts in the far corners of the world, our most sincere thanks, and our wishes for your safety and your swift return to your loved ones.
Snakey, I’ve got a smart-aleck reply that is just so inappropriate for this thread… So let’s just say that she’s going to have to run a whole lot faster than that.
If you ever wondered where your leftover Chinese-made witches from Halloween went on November 1, it was a steamer to Naples. I swear, La Befana now looks just like she just got off the plane from Salem, Mass. Just a little more cultural imperialism, eh?
Merry Christmas to you and yours, too, and if/when I ever get back to Tampa, we’re going drinking.
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Lex, and to all fellow readers.
Merry Christmas, and best wishes to all.
Best regards, Peter Warner.
Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for a Happy New Year to everyone.
Merry Christmas to all – in a way a different sentiment to what I grew up with -”Glædelig Jul”, – which means – sort of – Glad Christmas – the word “glædelig” does not have an english translation – being closer to to the word Glad than anything else. It is an old nordic word after all, meaning happiness without exultation or other appendages.
It was always the sensation of being happy while knowing sorrow. – But it behoves us to rejoice in Christmas while remembering Good Friday and Easter.
So… Looking around the table at my wife of 44 years, my three sons, two daughters in law and two perfect granddaughters, I give thanks.
Nothing and Nobody can take that away.
So to all – and especially Lex – I am shouting a Glædelig Jul and Godt Nytaar.
