I dunno. I’m not a copyright lawyer.
Still, it seems a bit much.

The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. They know. I mean, there’s 4 jets on their logo.
They know. Whether we do anything? – I doubt it.
I doubt there’s anything we can or should do. Unless, of course, you mean “Just embrace the suck!”
To my knowledge, there are no copyright agreements between Brazil and us. If I’m wrong, I’m sure, somebody out there is more than willing to set my tail feathers straight.
Grumpy
very funny! if you follow the link at the bottom you’ll see the web design company LogoMidia Marketing & Design which specializes, among other things, “Personalized creation of a symbol and logo to represent your company”, starting at 99 somethings (ignorant of Brazilian monetary unit and ok with that).
The thing is, somebody got paid. Would’ve loved to hear the pitch. “See, we’re angels, security angels, and we’re blue and fast, like jets”. “Wow! Great design, very symmetrical! We love it!”.
Here’s the rub. Brazil is looking hard at Supers. If they buy in, the company is GOLDEN. or not. Maybe somebody stateside/new biz says something. Or they could lose a few Seguranca Patrimonial cases/clients and end up as the ThunderBirds.
Lex …We could always send the Brazilian guys a letter saying, “see those sweet little jets on our Blue Angels logo that you copied? We could always send them down your way and have a little war game with your jets, and see who wins.”
Bite your tongue, Marianne, bite your tongue. This not a serious suggestion, in case anyone is wondering.
Marianne
Better that… than this on the side of a plumbers van in Sao Paulo:
Sondar de Thunderbird
“Nós sugamos”
Hmm. Well, I went to the Blues website and clicked on the “Privacy Policy” icon and it reads thus: “All information on this site is public domain and may be distributed or copied unless otherwise specified. Use of appropriate byline, photo and image credits is requested.” I am going to assume this pertains to any logo, photograph, graphic or video. Seems to be okay for this company (but still weird) since there are a number of retailers that sell Blue Angel logo merchandise on the airshow circuit, and online as well. But I’m not a copyright lawyer.
The logo is a nice tribute, it can slide.
Now, if these security goons start running full speed towards a threat with their arms outstretched, pivoting at the last minute in what they call “El Rollo Tuckunderio”, we’ve got a problem!
ALL US military logos and insignia are Public Domain/ not copyrighted…
Same is true, by the way, for photographs taken by US military members using government equipment. So, if fighter pilot Lex were to take a picture of his wingman from his Hornet with his own camera, he couldn’t copyright (or sell) that picture. Just ask “Heater” Heatly.
I don’t even think the government can hold a copyright. They can prohibit the commercial use of official symbols and insignia, though.
What happened to Heater? I have his Cutting Edge book. Did he get into some sort of trouble over that?
[...] H/T LEX [...]
Marianne Matthews,
I know I may not be sharpest tool in the toolbox. It appears that you are suggesting we should “drop by” and drop some after holiday “reminders” of our visit. Yes, be careful of those things that go boom in the night.
As always, Grumpy
Good heavens, Grumpy, I wasn’t suggesting anything lethal if we made a visit. More like a display of play-fighting, like Lex does for interested folks on weekends. Sort of like fencing with buttons on the foils, you know… We’ve got enough wars going on right now, anyway. I want our soldiers and airmen safe. And long-lived.
Marianne
BC, R$99,00, or something around US$45,00. Peanuts, for any kind of professional design service.
About the BA logo in public domain, well. Something may not be illegal, mas it may still be immoral.
Also, I don’t think Blue Angels Security -Brasil- have any F18s, or any other kind of jets.
Chris,
All of Heater’s profit on “Cutting Edge” was scooped up by the USN.
Cardoso, agradecimentos para seus auxílio e informação.
In this day of the WWW it would have been a short jump to learn it on my own, and after all it wouldn’t have used up that much gray matter.
Considerações amáveis, bc.
Actually, I believe that operative form of intellectual property here is trademark, not copyright.
I don’t think the government trademarks its insignia, although there was a big controversy recently over the Army licensing the “Big Red One” insignia to Sears. Perhaps (snark) our friends to the south reached a similar deal?
