Pravda is Russian for Truth

Sometimes it can be inconvenient:

The AGW theory is based on data that is drawn from a ridiculously narrow span of time and it demonstrates a wanton disregard for the ‘big picture’ of long-term climate change. The data from paleoclimatology, including ice cores, sea sediments, geology, paleobotany and zoology, indicate that we are on the verge of entering another Ice Age, and the data also shows that severe and lasting climate change can occur within only a few years. While concern over the dubious threat of Anthropogenic Global Warming continues to distract the attention of people throughout the world, the very real threat of the approaching and inevitable Ice Age, which will render large parts of the Northern Hemisphere uninhabitable, is being foolishly ignored.

I guess we’ll find out.

Pravda is Russian for “truth.” Isvestia is Russian for “news.” They say “In Pravda is no isvestia. In Isvestia is no pravda.”

Considering this winter’s weather, it looks like the Rooskies are truthier than the Gorians.

From the looks of things we are entering a colder period. Ice age? Maybe, maybe not. Maybe a little ice age where we could drag cannon across the frozen Hudson, or skate on the canals in Holland again.

I’d give the contest to the Russkis as well (seems the Windoze spell checker doesn’t like “Russkis”).

IIRC when I was being edjumacated back in the late 60′s/early 70′s we were being taught that we were going into another ice age. Frankly, I think both sides are running around shouting “The sky is falling” for their own financial gain. Unfortunaly to many people that should really know better are buying into this folly, which in the end will shrink our paychecks just a little bit more.

They’ve been predicting another little ice age for about 40 years now. Within the past 5 or so, suddenly this long period of global warming is the crisis of the day.

You remember a couple of years ago, the standard Think-Tank Report was issued noting that food and resources like oil and electricity were going to be the cause for most of the upheaval and violence for the future?

Now ponder, last year we had corn at $7.50/bu, but for the past 90 years it’s typically traded at between $2 and $3 per bushel. We had rice exports cut off from major exporters like India as they hoarded what they needed for themselves. Products like cooking oil, bread, most pre-packaged foods, shot up at least 20%.

The cause? A drought in Australia.

So let’s ponder, then, a little ice age. North Dakota, Minnesota, Wyoming and Montana switch from corn to wheat in the colder climate. Canada probably loses 20% of her wheat harvest. States like South Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois produce 10% less due to the shorter growing season.

Think that might have an impact on the availability of food world-wide?

Let’s toss in Russia then. 20% decrease in the corn and wheat crops. There’s a *lot* of wheat grown in Russia.

This doesn’t even start on the nations towards the south pole, like South Africa, Nambia, I understand Zimbabwe used to have a pretty decent agricultural sector which was wiped out by land redistribution a decade or so ago…

Lot of folks to feed and less land to do it with. Some land will just switch to different crops, others will be out of production.

And people without food tend to, you know, starve. They also tend to get a bit uppity right before they lose all their energy. Their governments seem to think this a reason to obtain food, by trade if possible and by force if necessary.

So, ya. I’m *hoping* for global warming. A little ice age may quite literally be decimating.

  • Is truth. Cold now in Russia. Western politicians all lie. Is not warmer. Your Senator Albert Gore is fooling you. Western lies of “Global Warming” some kind of trick. We Russkies not surprised by your lies.

You Russkis are always on about cold. It’s always cold in Russia. How on earth do you think the saying “Mother Russia is a cold Mother” come from? Eh, Ivan? All properly informed Amerkanskis know it’s going to get hot, and we’re gonna get rich selling Mint Juleps in Sochi.

Is cold. Is hot. Is cold. Is hot. Climates goes in circles, da? Dress in layers. Add or subtract as is needs be.

Drink vodka. When cold, makes you feel warm. When hot, add ice, will makes you feel cool. Works AC/DC, nyet?

    Ourrah Rodina!

Well, if it ever gets too Ice Age-y up there in the Northern Hemisphere, I can recommend some great places to buy into in the south of Perth.

    :)
