Feet of Clay

NASA scientist James Hansen – he of the “hockey stick” graph – was one of the first voices to raise the alarm about anthroprogenic global warming.

Turns out his boss was not a particular fan:

Retired senior NASA atmospheric scientist, Dr. John S. Theon, the former supervisor of James Hansen, NASA’s vocal man-made global warming fear soothsayer, has now publicly declared himself a skeptic and declared that Hansen “embarrassed NASA” with his alarming climate claims and said Hansen was “was never muzzled.” Theon joins the rapidly growing ranks of international scientists abandoning the promotion of man-made global warming fears.

“I appreciate the opportunity to add my name to those who disagree that global warming is man made”…

“My own belief concerning anthropogenic climate change is that the models do not realistically simulate the climate system because there are many very important sub-grid scale processes that the models either replicate poorly or completely omit,” Theon explained. “Furthermore, some scientists have manipulated the observed data to justify their model results. In doing so, they neither explain what they have modified in the observations, nor explain how they did it. They have resisted making their work transparent so that it can be replicated independently by other scientists. This is clearly contrary to how science should be done. Thus there is no rational justification for using climate model forecasts to determine public policy,” he added.

We’ll probably spend a very great deal of money trying to manage it anyway.

  • OT, but, uplifting: A USAFA classmate comments on Sully. Nice read. Good news, and some background of what happened.

“Quack Quack” goes the NASA scientist, with a personal adjenda.

“That means the sky is falling” translates the chicken.

“Will money keep the sky from falling” asks the fox?

Global warmists are like the rooster who calls the dawn.

We’ll spend ourselves into oblivion, the weather won’t warm, they’ll say “we did it,” they’ll then say “we need to keep pouring money else it will come back,” the goofballs who vote will support it.

    We’re doomed.

  • Looks like the “trend” can’t be affected for at least a millennium.

Talk about making a “long term investment!” LOL

The “hockey stick” exists only if you leave out the warm period in the middle ages. AGW was a lie from the start. The CO2 biz is also bunk. CO2 has had much larger concentrations in the past. We are at the low end for plat growth to occur – about 250ppm. 200 ppm or below and plants don’t grow.

Bluntly, Hansen has been insubordinate, as well as a liar and should be relieved of public employment. Put him out of our misery, please.

Wow, NASA screwing up science? Who’d a thought?

On the other hand, certain scientists deserve our unflagging support!

Worked for me – at least I think it did…..ZZZZZZZZZZZZ

This CO2 thingie, folks… the Goracle is being incredibly stupid [not exactly unbelievable] or disingenuous. As a longtime orchid grower and hybridizer, I’ve done a lot of studyin’ about plants and fertilizers, as well as growing conditions. CO2 is an essential gas, like oxygen. Plants breathe in CO2, like we breathe in oxygen, and expel oxygen, like we expel CO2. It’s a really neat interlocking of nature, and it’s why if your friends visit you in the hospital they bring you a plant, if they love you. They’re bringing you extra oxygen to help you recover.

CO2 is an essential fertilizer for all green plants, from redwoods to food crops to orchids. If you want to live in a sandbox, eliminate all CO2 from our planet. And you wouldn’t live very long without it. So let’s hope and pray that the global warmingists aren’t successful in their evil plan to eliminate CO2 from the planet.

Because we’ll regret it with our dying breath. And that won’t take very long.

This is why I get so dam irritated at Al Gore. The idiot.

    FWIW,

I left the comment below over to Jules Crittenden’s blog earlier. I thought it might be germane here. :)

    Ya know,

I have yet to hear anyone talking about the possibility that the rise in human obesity rates might be tied to an oncoming ice age. These sorts of things have happened before, and it is worth noting Medieval paintings from the time of the last mini Ice Age that show a rather large proportion of well-fed folks.

Stocky people survive in cold climbs. Inuit, Russ, even Neanderthal. Perhaps our genes are telling us something that we ought to be listening to. If evolutionary theories are to be believed, then species adapt to changing environments. Our society has certainly changed, and so have our bodies. Maybe it is more than just lethargy and sloth at play.

    Just sayin’…….

Every manlyman in America should bow down to you, Tim, you’ve just hit on the greatest excuse of all time! : “No Dear, those extra pounds you see on me are not due to beer, cheetos and chips, mashed potatoes, ice creme and cake, lethargy and sloth. No, no, no, you see I’m an “early adapter,” and just getting ready for the coming Ice Age–you should be proud of me, your loving husband, for my brilliant foresight.”

“Oh, almost forgot dear, pass the gravy please…..”

I like to listen to Larry Mieller’s program on Wisconsin Public Radio, as he has almost no political slant to his show. His first Wednesday of the month talks with Scott Craven, the University of Wisconsin’s wildlife ecologist are always great, as are his talks with Phil Pelliteri, from the UW’s entomology Department. ( His programs can be heard on WPR’s website’s audio archives, they are Badger Approved Listening ).

However, every last Monday of the month, he has on two chaps from the UW’s Meterology Department, and it is a 45 minute drinking of Algore flavored Kool Aid. This last Monday, as I was driving down I-39, I was told by them that, “Scientific debate is over, and Anthropogenic Global Warming is a fact”.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison, is ranked as the 17th best university in the world. That means that there is no real difference between the UW, and Harvard; Yale; Hiedelburg, Oxford et al, other than cost. How sad that some of my fellow Badgers have decended so low, as to put personal beliefs before science, and ignore anything that contradicts thier beliefs. On behalf of all us Badgers, I want apologise to all of you people.
