Metanoia

If only they’d listen to Rush – or read Roger Simon Kimball - maybe our government might have one.

Yeah.  I had to look it up too.

It’d be hell to be a metanoid paranoid…. always changing your mind about who your enemies were……

Wrong Roger, Lex (Kimball, not Simon).

I’ve grown a bit weary of O’Riellys p*ssing contest with Roger Imelt…but the CNBC interview (and subsequent snarky rehash) with Limbaugh this morning lent it some credence.

Mark Haines came into the interview being an ass and remained so throughout.

Then later, Cramer was doing his bug eye thing when it was suggested Limbaugh had made a valid point.

CNBC had been mostly apolitical…guess they gotta sell more Shamwows.

The Greek word, “Metanoia” means many things. When we, as Westerners, look at the term and translate it as, “change your mind”, what does that mean? To answer this, we need to look at it from the cultural and historical view. Let’s try. Let’s focus on the mind. For the sake of illustration to understand the word, we’re going to use a narrative. Let’s say, you come to me as your doctor to assist you in this process of “Metanoia”. I begin to explain, you’ll need ’surgery’, not to change it, but to exchange it. We will put a ‘folder’ with your history. The rest of your processing will be done with this ‘new mind’.

At one time, I was multi-lingual. Greek, both modern and ancient were included, among others. I have forgotten more than most have ever known. People need to understand, he using a word that he had no grasp.

Alas, Wiki gets is partially wrong. Their definition is superficial at best.

They are right about it normally being translated as “repentance.” However, it is not just a change of mind. It a complete total change of life. Literally it means to turn around and away from what you were doing before. It is witnessed by a godly sorrow for the sinful way you lived before and results in allowing God to take over – to totally submit your life to Christ.

  • So, in essence, a paradigm shift but having to do with life as opposed to just a scientific community.

Learn something new every day. Thanks!

Everybody is looking at this world through a religious view. The fact is “Metanoia” was the term used when the people went to Sparticus to train.

We could use the same term in the transition from civilian to Military. There are two parts, as if you didn’t know, yeah, right! On one hand, you have lifelong learning (theoretical) and training (applicational), but these don’t stay on the same level. This is a cycle that moves upward as we mature. If we look back at our lives, we will see a particular moment in time that is that “Metanoia” moment in time.
