Anybody see the overall strategy in these expenditures?
Yeah. Me either.

Targets of Opportunityblog advertising is good for you Credo"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones "Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra" "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche "A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke “You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier "Μολὼν λαβέ" -- Leonidas "Blogito Ergo Sum" -- Neptunus Lex Amazon AssociateFor the Effort!Winnar!![]() Subscribe![]() CategoriesPagesTagsacademy

Ice breaker for the USCG?
Didn’t they get the memo about AGW? There ain’t going to be any ice in the arctic, just dead polar bears bobbing on the surface and Al Gore’s salty tears below.
The list looks like a combination WISH / HOUSEKEEPING List rather than a Stimulus for the economy.
Where are the public works projects, infrastructure improvements (outside Washington, DC), new career/job training programs?
We all know the members of Congress are answerable to “us”, but are they listening? Current polls have 54% of Americans against this bill!
Hey there, Congressperson… Senator… Listen UP!
• $1.4 billion for rural waste disposal programs.
Well, we tried sending some of it to Washington DC, but even the folks out there refused to keep it.
Dang.

$75 million for “smoking cessation activities.”
Which, if successful, would cause revenue shortages due to the loss of the taxes associated with tobacco consumption which would soon require urgent attention from the taxpayer to make up for. Once the ball gets a-rollin’ it just don’t stop.
Memo
To: Congress of US
From: Taxpayers
Subj: Stimulus Bill

YOUR TRIED THIS SH*T WITH MIDNIGHT BASKETBALL UNDER CLINTON.

“new career/job training programs?”
I agree. I just had a guy delivering a dryer from HHGregg that caught sight of the numerous airplane pictures hanging around the house. He told me his dream was to be an A&P, but couldn’t afford the community college tuition. If I gotta spend a trillion bucks, I’d rather spend it giving a guy like that a chance.
Fine… then issue each of us the $2,600 and I’ll apply it toward flight lessons too! Or if you apply the stimulus to only thouse of us who paid taxes, then I’ll be glad to take my $5,795.00
My small businesses could each benefit.

Lex,
That’s political payola. Nothing else makes sense. Same stuff, just a different day. Just like Clinton’s “most ethical administration” in history. No hope, and no change.
$6 billion to turn federal buildings into “green” buildings?!
Who knew paint cost that much.
Roll out the (pork) barrel…
I heard one commenter on radio say this is Pelosi’s five year journey. She’s been building the list of who to help all this time…just had to get a compliant prez in place to seal the deal.
And I’m sure “The One” has had a hand in adding some “friends” into the heap.
Creating or repairing sewer systems is the kind of thing this is supposed to be all about. I have no problem with vocational retraining (as long as the school is actually doing the job) as that gets someone in a position to be a net payer of taxes instead of a net consumer of them. Making a building “green” I have no problem with as long as a realistic ROI analysis based on a reduction in energy consumption justifies it.
The rest of this stuff is social engineering or empire building and it needs to be sh!tcanned.
$150 million to pay for conversions from analog to digital TV.
Yeah, that will provide jobs, rebuild the infrastructure and help the economy.
The only good thing about this Generational Theft Act (h/t to Michelle Malkin for that) is that it’s all on the Democrat’s shoulders. When it fails, it will be clear who ramrodded it thru.
I only hope when that time comes that the country is paying attention and votes their collective a$$es out.
I did read somewhere yesterday (I think at Hot Air) that a large group of Democrats in the House are drafting a letter for Botox-Nan, complaining about her bull in a china shop style -only allowing specific individuals to draft legislation then closing the doors to debate.
One can only hope that the coming revolution will start within her own party.
Strategy? How about “spend as much as we can as fast as we can using money we don’t have to grow government”? Or would that be a tactic?
Kris,
Every DTV converter box I’ve seen has been made in China (or Indonesia, Vietnam, etc.)
So I wonder whose economy that $150M is supposed to stimulate?
I frankly have a hard time giving people too stupid to know by now that they need a converter box for digital TV the money to buy one.
Maybe if they didn’t watch it all the time they might not have let whatever brains the good Lord gave them atrophy so much by now. I suspect they don’t need it to watch anything, you know, educational.
But I suspect they voted (if they could even figure out how) for you know who…..
Change… change you can believe in!
BULLSH*T.
There’s a few WTF’s in there, even though I agree with most. Like – FBI salaries?
Is that’s what’s wrong with the intel community – it’s been volunteers?
And yeah, digital TV coupons, you mean they didn’t have this in the previous budget?
