The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones "Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra" "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche "A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke "Μολὼν λαβέ" -- Leonidas "Blogito Ergo Sum" -- Neptunus Lex Relocating?Military members find information on homes for military by visiting Military Homes.com For the Effort!Subscribe![]() Tagsafghanistan AGW Araby army Blogging buffoonery china culture economy Flying Friday Musings geopol GWOT Headlines health care History iran iraq issues Media Memory Lane Military Navy norks Oz pakistan piracy politicians politics Politics and Culture pundits Russia science seals sea stories silliness Small Stuff SoCal sport technology UAVs UK usaf usmc weapons WP Cumulus Flash tag cloud by Roy Tanck and Luke Morton requires Flash Player 9 or better. |

And my son will be home next Saturday! The last I heard they are driving hard through rough seas, heading west…
I will be on the pier to welcome his boat. This photo montage just makes the tears flow…
Any long time Lex readers will recall the picture of me with my baby boy. He used to comment here as “Ens. Tim”
He is now a Lt. and on his way home!
I definitely do remember Ens. Tim. Babs, When you see him, give him a big greeting and thank you from all of us.
It is such a privilege to live in a country that possesses such a great institution as the U.S. Navy.
Seven days, 20 Hours, 18 minutes until Pass-In-Review at Great Lakes for my version of “The Cat.” But who’s counting?
Maybe we should share the tissue box?
“Groovy?”
That’s from MY generation, Lex–you’re picking up bad habits.
On a more serious note, such patriotic themes as have moved babs to tears are sadly all too lacking in this era. I grew up on the TV shows “Victory at Sea,” “Navy Log,” the series about submarines made from Cmdr (Ltr Capt) Edward L. Beach’s book “Run Silent, Run Deep” (they made a movie of the same name with Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster in ‘58, but somehow Wiki omits the TV series) Beach was a Navy Cross winner, btw.
Also, there was an early (very) Sunday morn weekly program about Army doings whose name escapes me right now but I can still hear the deep voice of the narrator in my mind. And of course there were were all the movies: “Strategic Air Command” w. Jimmy Stewart, “The Bridges at To-Ko-Ri” and a million other WWII and Korean War era flics the likes of which are “Gone With the Wind” these days with but a few notable exceptions. (sigh)
Yeah, I’m going to be a wreck. This day was about seven years in the making and I couldn’t be more proud.
Simply stated, the girl’s my heart. And Momma and little brother are pretty proud too.
In a couple of weeks I’ll post over at the Flight Deck. Can’t wait until those magic words; Liberty Call! Liberty Call!
Joe,
I know the feeling. It’s one thing to go through all of that yourself. When it’s your kid doing it, however, it’s a whole other ball game.
My son graduated last month from airborne school and is back with his parent unit.
I understand completely why my own father drank…….
Hi, what is shown at 5:56?
An amphibious helicopter assault ship in a fog bank, I should think.
BOXER in fog:

Wow, great. I got tears in my eyes, a couple of times – and I’m an old ‘doggie’ (soldier).
I’m proud and thankful for those who serve in our Navy.
Gave me chicken skin. Very cool!
Greetings:
Interesting that there were pictures of Muslims praying but none of Christians. I wonder what could have been behind that.
That’s some of the best photography I’ve ever seen, I had the chicken skin myself. Was a bit of fluff in my eye once or twice as well, especially when I saw that sailor getting capped, who I believe died shortly thereafter.
And this old fart will see your “groovy” and raise you: “Far out!”
Thanks for sharing the vid, Lex. It ranks way up there with the amazing USMC commercial from last year.
Very kewl, indeed
Thank you, and G-d Bless.
