Targets of Opportunityblog advertising is good for you Credo"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." -- John Paul Jones "Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Caesar and Cleopatra" "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friedrich Nietzsche "A kind Providence has placed in our breasts a hatred of the unjust and cruel, in order that we may preserve ourselves from cruelty and injustice. They who bear cruelty, are accomplices in it. The pretended gentleness which excludes that charitable rancour, produces an indifference which is half an approbation. They never will love where they ought to love, who do not hate where they ought to hate."--Edmund Burke “You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”--General Sir Charles Napier "Μολὼν λαβέ" -- Leonidas "Blogito Ergo Sum" -- Neptunus Lex Amazon AssociateFor the Effort!Winnar!![]() Subscribe![]() CategoriesPagesTagsacademy

Lex … as you probably know already, there are similar situations with various species of wildlife as the hypnotized shark in the photo. Baby seals can be pacified into immobility by stroking them. Once they are calmed into immobility you can stack them up like cordwood with nary a peep out of them. I know this because my husband photographed them after stacking, on one photo safari in the Magdalen Islands. They look so sweet that way. Doesn’t make half as impressive a picture as the guy and the shark, however.
I wonder if it would work with politicians. Nah.
Marianne
It’s too expensive to do it with politicians.
Marianne, that’s one pic I’d like to see. I imagine it was a hoot doing it. Nothing like rubbing the bellies of the Chameleons we would catch at my Uncle’s place at Pasadena, TX. They go right to sleep, and it takes a while for them to wake up.
A guy I know who hunts Pheasant but also manages the local range goes out before the hunt and places the birds around the fields where the hunters will walk. He pulls them out the bags or boxes one at a time, puts their little heads under their wings and they promptly go to sleep. He then places them about under bushes, etc, (think easter eggs to be found by kids), and goes on till he’s out of birds. He’ll put out a hundred or two as a time. They stay asleep a long time he says. The dogs will wake them up, however.
“just realized he brought a monkey to a hyena fight…”
Classic.
Photos aside, another thing the “normal” world has stolen from the Forces. There’s that Las Vegas, thing. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
It started out as, what happens on the other side of the Date Line, stays on the other side of the Date Line. Seventh Fleet should sue for copyright infringement.(chuckle-chuckle)
Baboon versus single hyena? I’d put my money on the baboon.
And yes, Spetsnaz are still very much in existence, although they are organized very differently than they were in the day. Ask the Chechens, especially the three that got whacked in Turkey last week.
