Rebuilding our Tattered Alliances

Sometimes? It requires defying convention.

Update: Much ado about nothing so much, as it turns out.

  • I scratched my head for a few thinking that there must be some sort of rational reason for this but, finding none, came to the ultimate conclusion that we really do have incompetence in the White House and they simply don’t care how stupid this looks.

You would think that, given the noise on the British PM and Russian President flaps they might do a google search at least before sending this out…..

Just imagine the drumbeat of criticism by the MSM if W had sent such a letter.

Of course, this latest insanity by President Chuckles will not be covered by the MSM.

Actually according to comments on the Le Figaro site, the letter was a response to Chirac’s who has written to Obama in the name of his Foundation for Peace and Environment. So there’s nothing insulting for the Sarko as Obama meant his own next 4 years.

DJD, Rest assured that I shall endeavor mightly to not let the facts, however dubious, get in the way of my ever so sweet schandenfraude…’till the next time…and there will be a next time. Best

  • I’m just wondering if the President is getting any staff support. The Gift Gaffe is incredible.

Is the President getting daily briefs? Anything?

  • The letter was quite obviously meant for Chirac in his capacity of leader of Foundation for Peace and Environment. Having said that, it is quite obvious as well that Sarkozy takes it as an insult, given that they’ve been trying to arrange a face-to-face with Obama for some time. But the President has so far been too busy to meet with our first ally. All that time fixing the economy by appearing on Leno and 60 Minutes.

  • XBTC: You had me scratching me head about ‘first ally’ but then…: “Otherwise, Americans remember that France was America’s first ally, and Britain was America’s first enemy. Louis XVI bankrupted his country in his efforts to support the American Revolution. George III would have had Washington shot and Jefferson hanged if he’d had the chance.” http://synonblog.dailymail.co.uk/2009/01/first-ally-first-in-the-door.html

Look, Obama is a lefty and Chirac has been highly critical of conservative American presidents, while Sarkozy is the first conservative right of center guy France has had for a long time–plus he liked Bush. What’s to ponder?

Heck, it ain’t like we get anything outta the Frogs anyhow. I’m guessing he won’t confuse Chavez and Calderon. Oh, maybe he already has.
