    As a graduate of that fine institution, I’m only somewhat appalled.

    There is a strong strain of left wing liberation theology entrenched in the Kroc peace center on campus that was disturbing in the early/mid 80′s and is probably worse now that they have millions of dollars to play with.

    The school is bipolar that way. Single-sex dorms, expulsion if you get caught having pre-marital sex, school-sanctioned bus trips to the annual anti-abortion march in DC etc etc, but let’s fund left wing whack jobs in the name of social justice. The big difference is Obama is in the US, not in central or south america.

    Lex, I’m curious what SNO thinks of the Kroc center @ USD.

    NORTH Bend? Is that some sort of insider thing I don’t get?

    Apropos of nothing, The Second Mrs. Pennington is an ND alumna (Class of ’78, same as that famous retired 49ers QB). I can vouch for what Kevin sez in a couple of regards. TSMP lived in an off-campus apartment during her senior year to get around some of the unrealistic rules and regs. I’m glad she did. ;)

    There is nothing new under the sun. Some bishops are already being vocally critical of the ND President. Heretics have been around since 0033 and Hell is populated with more than a few of the unrepentant of them. When all is said and done you will honor God one of two ways: in His Mercy or in His Justice. No one escapes. The greater the scandal the greater demand for Justice.

      Of course, you are only a heretic if you happen to question the theology of those in power.

      When you are in charge, you get to determine who the heretics are. Nice system, that. Good way to control dissent.

      If Christianity gives you comfort, then that is a good thing. I respect that, and your choice to believe as you choose. But to assume that there is only one God, and one path to a good afterlife is the height of arrogance.

      I hope that Notre Dame will rescind the invitation to POTUS. It is hypocritical for a Catholic University to extend such an honour to one who is so at odds to the university and Catholicism’s values and Catachism.

    Not defending the ND institution..frankly I agree with the Bishop of my denomination, but imagine if, let’s say, the Lutherans or the Episcopalians had numerous universities? They would be more liberal than Berkely…

    Just about every university in this country is left leaning when it comes to abortion. Liberalism is part of the genetic makeup of academia ain’t it? As Gomer would say “Surrrrprise, Surrrrrprise”.
