If it’s a portrait in courage you’d like, check out these women in Afghanistan demanding what so many people in the West take for granted:
About 300 Afghan women, facing an angry throng three times larger than their own, walked the streets of the capital on Wednesday to demand that Parliament repeal a new law that introduces a range of Taliban-like restrictions on women, and permits, among other things, marital rape.
Now that’s speaking truth to power.
Not everyone approves, of course:
Afterward, when the demonstrators had left, one of the madrasa’s senior clerics came outside. Asked about the dispute, he said it was between professionals and nonprofessionals; that is, between the clerics, who understood the Koran and Islamic law, and the women calling for the law’s repeal who did not…
The religious scholars, Mr. Jafaari conceded, were all men.
Lingering a while, Mr. Jafaari said that what was really driving the dispute was not the Afghans at all, but the foreigners who loomed so large over the country.
“We Afghans don’t want a bunch of NATO commanders and foreign ministers telling us what to do.”
Well. I’m sure he’s half right.

We can’t do anything about women under an Islamic regieme. If we want to be “friends” with the regeim than we have to turn a blind eye to the women that suffer.
So far, that seems to be the game plan of NGO’s that bring aid to the islamist world..
babs … In my cruising of the internet, it seems to me that today’s feminists [as opposed to the more classic feminists of my working years who campaigned for equal pay for equal work, and didn't burn their bras] are deliberately ignoring the brutalizing and denial of rights to women that prevails throughout most Mid Eastern countries.
I can’t see how this could have a good outcome, either for the Muslim women, or for us, the women of the West. Compassionate adults cannot in good conscience ignore the floggings, imprisonment, and worse which happen regularly to women in the Muslim world. How can any country brutalize half its citizens and still be respected by Western governments? Or by their citizens, male and female …
Thank the Lord I don’t have to deal with them.

Half-Right? Sir, I beg to differ with you, it could very easily be, ” All that’s Left!” These Muslim males would be wise to grow up! This will be the *only* thing the Muslim females will be interested in.
By the way, Marianne, “*Yes!*
