Hegemonic corsairs disrupt peaceful fishermen minding their own business:

The U.S. Navy says 17 suspected pirates have been apprehended after an attack on an Egyptian ship in the Gulf of Aden.

The Navy said in a statement Thursday that Korean Destroyer ROKS Munmu the Great and the U.S. guided missile cruiser Gettysburg dispatched helicopters to aid Motor Vessel Amira after it came under attack…

The Navy said it brought the alleged pirates on board the Gettysburg for further questioning. Also confiscated were eight assault rifles, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher and a rocket-propelled grenade.

Those are legitimate fishing implements in the Gulf of Aden.

See for yourself!

  • I’m amazed these days, how lawfare has shaken us so much we can witness a criminal act and…well…it’s all just “alleged.”

    • AWC N

Yeah, “alleged” sounds stupid, but it’s standard journalist practice/rules to label anyone arrested as such. Part of that innocent until proven guilty thing we have (of course watching the news, this obviously gets kicked to the curb way too frequently).

      • George P

Yep. “Alleged.” Innocent until proven guilty. Even in cases where you witnessed the crime and KNOW they’re guilty. Gotta wait on the courts to rule.

Thus my old newspaper didn’t call folks “illegal aliens,” because uninvited people crossing our borders were often later ruled LEGAL immigrants. They ditched “aliens” because it made them sound like sci-fi monsters. Honest.

  • How rude!
Some have used dynamite for fishing. Why not an RPG? We should mind our own business.

I liked the cruise site, their rates are low and the rental is cheap :o )

  • Grumpy

Be careful of what you’re fishing for, you’re liable to catch it. With some assistance from the Navy SEALS, they caught it.

@Wilko, during this same event, this was a US Flagged Vessel. Therefore, we were minding our own business.

    • I know. I know. My first choice was to scuttle the vessel with all aboard.
      You seem a little Grumpy.

Maybe the assault rifles were for shooting fish in a barrel?

I’m always *Grumpy*! If I had my way, I would suggest a trip to the Bahamas area. *Note*, I said absolutely nothing about landing! Now the debate begins, What altitude? Do we want them to become environmentalists? I was thinking about something more like, “Life Sustaining Members of the Shark Preservation Society”.

But wait!,How do you expect those poor innocent fishermen to protect themselves from pirates (you do know there are pirates in those waters, don’t you?) if you confiscate all their weapons?
