I don’t. She’s reaping what she sowed… and I suspect she’s swung the sickle through her own neck.

  • Mike Myers

Lex, you stretch the milk of human kindness too far. I’m reminded about the old line concerning the Drill Sergeant who told a recruit that when the Sarge died, the recruit would come “water” the Sarge’s grave. And the recruit said no, after he got out of the Army, he’d never stand in line again.

She’s out there right now like a pinata–not that she doesn’t have it coming. But her top cover, whether it be Obama or some pooh bah in the Washington press corps has decided that it’s either time for Nancy to go, or to at least take a beating. She helped the One get elected; he outsourced drafting the liberal Christmas tree to her–and she delivered. Now, for some reason, she’s become a liability . If she’s not under the bus yet, she soon will be “This is not the Speaker of the House that I knew etc.”

  • SoCal Pir8

No me! I feel sorry for us, she’s next in line after Biden. That is just scary, very scary!!

  • Mike47

I have no such feelings of sorrow for this wretched individual. The sooner she is gone the better. She is the best example out there of the elective products of San Francisco, which we can all do without.

  • RPL

I don’t feel sorry for her in the least. That hyper-partisan botoxed b***h deserves everything she gets.

I hope that she chokes on her words.

  • Ron Snyder

Pelosi is a crooked, lying, anti-American POS. She has done great and lasting harm to this country and enriched her and her family while doing so.

I wish very bad things upon her and if I believed that buying a bobble-head Pelosi doll and sticking pins in it would work, I would do so.

Wouldn’t even try to write the expense off on my taxes either.

At least Lex qualified his comment with almost.

  • virgil xenophon

“…I almost feel sorry for her.”

    “ALMOST”………

  • While I enjoyed the “pin the tail on the jackass” presser today, I was stunned by one statement she made. She was being asked about had she done enough when she first knew, and her reply (paraphrasing here) was that it was her job to change control of the Congress. BS. Her job was, and is, to serve the American people. If she thought any interrogation technique was illegal, then she needed to introduce legislation to ban it. No letters, no waiting until she put the queen crown on, and certainly no twenty-twenty hindsight. Lindsay Graham had it right today — she knew it was going on, but is now trying to “have it both ways”.

She is blinded by her partisanship, and needs to leave.

  • Laurie

So wishing physical violence against a woman who disagrees with you (hoping for choking, sticking her with pins)…or as it was described in “casting stones”, people who “get all loopy”, that’s just something folks like KO on the left do, huh? Oh wait, that’s right, Pelosi’s an old lady, not a hot young thing…that must be the difference?

I learn a lot reading the comments.

  • FbL

    Laurie,

Granted, there was nothing warm or polite about the quoted sentiments, but there was a strong strain of metaphor in it rather than physical violence. I’m not sure this is a particularly good choice of target…

  • Dust

Laurie, You lose credibility in here with many because you go weapons free at the slightest perceived infraction of your feminist ROE. This time you have a point as the comment at 6 is over the top.

    • MaxDamage

I used to tear the head off my sister’s Barbie doll while playing the sandbox and pretending I was a terrifying dinosaur. I do not recall that ever causing actual, physical harm to any women who may have had a figure and face like Barbie.

Which, thinking of the Miss America pageant, the combination of curves and plastic on the contestants should have had at least one of them being the voodoo doll equivalent of the Barbie doll were doll-mutilation a deadly threat to representatives.

What Pelosi deserves isn’t physical harm. What she deserves is the consequences of her actions, which appears to have been to lie in public.

Generally that’s considered to be bearing false witness (also known as perjury if done under oath), slander, and abusing the public trust.

So, yeah, while #6 is a bit assertive I fail to see any threat of direct harm to Pelosi in it.

The threat of indirect harm, such as to her reputation or ability to represent her constituents or her ability to lead?

      She did that herself.

    Back-pedal, Nancy, back-pedal!!!

  • Dust — I disagree with you, and Laurie. There hasn’t been ANY threat of violence against the Speaker, and I defy either of you to point it out. “(P)hysical violence against a woman” requires an overt act, on a person. Hoping someone chokes on their own words, or torturing a voodoo doll fails that test.

    • Which puts comments hoping someone’s kidneys might fail, wishing death on Ted Kennedy or expressing pleasure when he took a seizure … all in the same category, I suppose? Some may be worse than others but they are all something to be so proud of … pot meet kettle.

  • Dust

My comment refers to wishing someone physical harm. The Left does that stuff on reflex. I’ll speak for myself here but I’d rather be above that crap. As for shortening Pelosi’s tenure in Congress? I was there years ago.

  • Brian

“You know, God help me, but I almost feel sorry for her.”

    I don’t.

  • Dust

OK. Why can’t I edit my own comment? What I was going to add was that if Laurie showed equal outrage at the comments directed in other threads towards Murtha or Spector I would tend to think she was “fair and balanced”. Heh.

  • guy

My prediction is that there will soon be a tearful presser where it will be announced that poor Nancy has either a medical condition that causes memory lapses or she’s struggled with some sort of addiction that “with your support and good will I know I can defeat” or some such. She’ll be quietly put out to pasture for a few months then go on to the speaking circuit – think Oprah.

  • MissBirdlegs in AL

I don’t even “almost” feel sorry for her. Hopefully, she’s reaping what she’s sown. I agree with the comment that she’s never done her job, but has played politics with the lives of all of us. Under the bus is a good place for her, IMO.

  • John

Pelosi is a complete idiot, and a liar, and doing horrible damage to our country.

She deserves whatever comeuppance she gets out of this treasonous attempt to lie her way out of the fact that she knew, and did nothing to object then.

Meanwhile, the President refuses to declassify the memos cited by Cheney which purportedly prove the value of the enhanced interrogation techniques.

The mere fact that Pelosi is third in line is frightening, but no more so than Joker Joe being ahead of her. I pray for Obama’s safety daily, as much as I detest every single policy he has pushed.

No sympathy at all for Peolsi. Not one bit. Put her on the stand under oath about the briefings, and let’s see about her lying which is far worse than anything Scooter Libby was convicted for.

  • “My statement is clear.” Um, no – clearly not. We are paying her. I for one, want my money back.

  • SJBill

For the past few months, the more Flags I see in the background, the more likely the speaker is bullshiiting us.

    SanFranGrannyNan set a new record.

  • STEVEC

Not sorry in the least and hopeful that Whorehouse Harry is next. Then . . . well, the list is long, very long, and I truly hope that we get to work down that list quite far.

  • Danger

Call me a conspiracy nut but… She defied the “One” on several issues already and she has to go. She certainly is a piece of trash and has no sympathy for anyone. Karma-Geddon.
It would be nice to see her go but, as with people of this sort: there is always a new and younger version in the wings waiting as a faithful understudy.

    • FbL

I’ll leave discussions of conspiracy to others, but talk is her junior–Steny Hoyer–is angling for her job. If so, there could be worse Speakers than him. At the very least, he’s not the type to undermine the military and national security. He may have just been putting on a tour de force performance, but I heard/met him at an event last fall and he was impressive. Definitely a political animal, but I’d trust his general intentions more than I trust hers.

      • Not really conspiracy theory. more like the now accepted political behind the scene power playfulness we have come to allow our elected representatives to engage in, as their seemingly main function in life. You know…the you “upset” me, so UNDER THE BUS WITH YOU!

  • Tom G.

It’s true Laurie, if she were hot I’d forgive her almost anything, just as I did Jane Fonda because of her hotness…sheesh…who let the dawgs out? [intentionally sexist]

    • MaxDamage

Jane Fonda? I well remember a visit to the Nuclear Engineering lab at Iowa State back in the early 80′s, a buddy of mine being a grad student there.

In front of the control station next to the UTR-10 reactor (yes, a 10kw reactor in the middle of the campus, effectively incapable of powering a hair dryer) there was a nice poster of Jane Fonda from her Playboy, um.. interview. Yeah.

Querying the reactor operator on duty, he opined that it helped the decision-making process, in that it’s very difficult to take the opinion of Jane Fonda regarding reactor operations seriously, and especially so when she’s wearing no clothes.

      I couldn’t fault his logic.

I’ve heard news that Texas A&M had the same poster on their reactor, but I’ve no independent verification.

      – Max

      • Now that’s the kind of Reactor Plant Manual I could read………

Of course, it has to be kept current, so could we please replace Hanoi Jane’s centerfold with someone new? Perhaps Carrie Prejean or Sarah Palin, or even some nubile and nekkid 22 yr old hottie?

(Hey, wishful thinking never hurts! And I’m a Sailor. What’d you expect? Deep Sea Fishing magazine?)

        Subsunk

        • So, like, aren’t some of our esteemed commentors likely to have lovely daughters of the same age as that annonymous nubile and nekked 22 yr old hottie? I’m just saying …

  • AW1 Tim

    Tom G.

I’ve never forgiven Jane Fonda. I never will.

She is beyond any forgiveness in my book.

  • Marianne Matthews

How does this sound as a one-sentence summing up of The Press Conference? Pusillanimous Pelosi, the pantless popinjay, prevaricates again.

There, folks. No ill-wishing, like Wanda Sykes did about Limbaugh. No obscenities either. [Old ladies aren't supposed to use them.] Just a descriptive sentence, expressing my deep dislike, in a scornful mode.

    Marianne

  • virgil xenophon

There is a way to professionally disagree with government agencies–even public disputes of a politicized nature over hotly contested gray areas of contention involving differing memories and interpretation of vaguely worded memos–in a mannered, even-toned style, without impugning the professional reputation of the side opposite.

Unfortunately, odious bitch that she is, the Speaker has eschewed that route in favor of an shrill, unprincipled broad-side of unproven partisan accusations that reflect poorly not only upon herself and the office she holds–but upon the nation itself in the eyes of the world.

My first thought was that her actions to date are a perfect example of the old saying : “Class will tell.”

On second thought it has occurred to me that the saying: “The scum always rises to the surface” seems more appropriate to describe the essence of this woman.

And being a Navy blog which perforce deals with subjects of a liquid nature–large and small, and of various properties and
consistencies–I feel perhaps the second thought is more appropriate.

  • Skip

The most powerful woman in the world, and she lost it.
The ego is taking her down, and if she is not careful her jet could have a malf [CIA?]
The last thing in the world she thinks about is the United States of America or its citizens. Only the power.

  • Dust

    Marianne- Well said.

Another quote comes to mind regarding Pelosi for which Pelosi should be quite familiar in her other self- appointed job as a Catholic Theologian: “Those that live by the sword, die by the sword”. As true in politics as anywhere. Probably more so.

  • The Screecher’s countdown timer may have started. The WaPo rolls over on her:

Pelosi’s performance in the Capitol was either a calculated escalation of a long-running feud with the Bush administration or a reckless act by a politician whose word had been called into question. Perhaps it was both.

Neither is good for the nation. Hopefully, the nation is what she, and her party serve. But I ain’t holdin’ my breath.

  • David Curp

    Lex,

Your “almost” is key, nicht wahr? But unlike an animal in a trap** the Speaker does not have the happy option of chewing off one of her own limbs…*

*No Speakers of the House or women of any other kind were harmed in the production of this analogy.

PS: This is not to say that the Speaker is a fury woodland animal – I respect animal kind too much***)

***Anyone contemplating violence or any other kind of denegration of women based on these observations should see a Doctor (of History) who can explain how in the past that much more hard hitting, even scurilous accusations have been made against politicians of all (seven as of last count***) genders involved in politics.

***http://web.uvic.ca/~ahdevor/HowMany/HowMany.html#History offers a nuanced, academic account of the multiplicity of gender, or http://malaysia.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080108121339AAXi4lX cuts to the chase to explain our seven gendered (at least!) reality.

  • Wanting to stick pins in someone is a far cry from wishing death on someone.

    I’m just saying.

Botox Nan is in freefall – I hope it doesn’t take too long. The country deserves better.

  • Rhinowso

    I love seeing that #$%^ squirm…

“Let me read my statement again…”

Pants on fire. Where is Rosie O’Donnell when we need her? “DELUSIONAL!”

  • RonF

She was being asked about had she done enough when she first knew, and her reply (paraphrasing here) was that it was her job to change control of the Congress.

This just came up in discussion here at work. There are a number of people in government – currently dominated by Democrats – to whom considerations of attainment and maintenance of party power with them at the top outstrips their actual duties that they swore to uphold.

I had a discussion with some on the left recently. The issue came around to where I made a statement that “But that means that [politician X] would have to violate their oath.” This was sloughed off. It was overtly held that oaths are not to be taken seriously if they stand in the way of the attainment of what one sees as the greater good. The concept that you should resign a position if you took it under the obligation of an oath or promise that you find you can no longer support was also sloughed off – after all, if you resign the office, how can you then further your aims?

Honor is quite simply not a concept that is held in any esteem by many on the left.

  • Jim Collins

Hey, if you keep painting bullseyes on yourself, don’t be suprised if you catch a few arrows. I find it funny that Jane Fonda is mentioned in this thread. My Legion Post just replaced the urinal deodorizers that have Jane Fonda’s picture on them, with ones that have Pelosi’s picture.

    • STEVEC

Regarding the urinal deodorizers: I’m pro choice – every other one should be Fonda / Peloser. Of course, we here in Kalifornia have inducted Hanoi Jane into the Hall of Shame (Fame). The bar out here for that is set awfully low.

  • Marine6

I think you are all being far too harsh on a combat veteran. Didn’t you hear her say that she didn’t remember all those pesky details of what was covered in those super secret briefings because she was too busy fighting the Iraq War?

Of course, what she didn’t mention was that she and Whorehouse Harry were busy fighting on the OTHER side.

  • mojo

Live by the leak, die by the leak.

It couldn’t happen to a nastier partisan back-stabber.

  • grounded eric

I know I shouldn’t laugh at others’ misfortunes, even when they deserve it. But I’m a sailor (and a nuke at that) and I just can’t help but laugh at her. Hehehehehehehehehehe!

  • As a parent, I am a big fan of natural consequences as a form of discipline for my children. It teaches them – quickly and early on – about the laws of cause and effect as well as making MY job easier (*I* don’t have to implement the consequences…life does it for me).

What you’re seeing here is just that – natural consequences. My mother always told me, “God don’t like ugly and payback’s a @$#%&”.

    She was right.

  • b2

I’m a little more cynical on her future…

She’s gonna lie low over the weekend, send out her proxy’s to cut deals and come out on the MSM machine full o’croc tears and mea culpas. They all learned at the knee of BillyC that if you are cynically persistent enough you can endure anything…. It’s all “feelings” for those on the left, right? ;-)

Put this all into perspective vs. what Trent Lott resigned over…Sickening ain’t it?

    Bizzarro World I tell ya.
