Fierce Moral Urgency

Not all that, as it turns out.

President Barack Obama‘s allies in the Senate will not provide funds to close the Guantanamo Bay prison until the administration comes up with a satisfactory plan for transferring the detainees held there, top Democrats said Tuesday. And in a further break with Obama, the Senate’s top Democrat said he opposes transferring any Guantanamo prisoners to the United States for their trials or to serve their sentences. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has said 50 to 100 Guantanamo detainees may be transferred to U.S. facilities.

“I can’t make it any more clear,” Reid said. “We will never allow terrorists to be released in the United States.”

Well, there’s campaigning and there’s governing. File this one under “read my lips/no new taxes,” cross-tabbed with “harder than it looks.”

You might think that they are all afraid that the terrorists might end up in their state. NIMBY at it’s best.

Pity they didn’t feel it necessary to have a real plan for everything else. We might have saved about a trillion dollars in just the past 100 days.

The Senate democrats are just stealing all that middle ground out from under the GOP. At this rate the GOP will never get back into power.

Interesting that when the GOP had control of congress they could never say no to Bush, which is a large part of the reason the country got fucked in the first place.

  • It’s interesting that the prisoners were sent to GTMO in the first place because there were no better options.
Seems the rookie idiot has found that the previous admin. wasn’t as stupid as he, and his asshat followers, thought.

Like I posted before, I’ll take ‘em.
Just drop them off in my back forty, about 400 yards out from the porch.
Save a lotta money for the .gov, free up some MP’s, make some room for the AFPAC’s the Co. can interview.
    Win win.
Plus my gun club is bored.

I don’t think its because “there was no better option” I think it was because it was the perfect option…still is. That’s why they ain’t leaving.

All the wailing the dems in congress did about G-mo before and all of a sudden they’re going NIMBY??? What did they think we were going to do with them? And who, besides H. Reid, said anything about releasing them in the US?

Maybe I’m a little thick (ok, probably), but if you already have a supermax prison in your state (with space avail) what is the big deal? I’ve been out by the supermax in Colorado and I don’t see what the big deal would be with parking them all there. Add a little extra perimeter security and call it a day. Am I missing something?

Some people believe prisons with the terrorists would be prime targets for their buddies bent on creating martyrs … those people don’t want to be collateral damage.
