Hard Choices

Congress makes them:

THE WEEKLY STANDARD has learned that Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic leadership is moving to strip the Lieberman-Graham amendment blocking the release of detainee photos from the supplemental appropriations bill now in conference. The Lieberman-Graham amendment, formally named the Detainee Photographic Records Protection Act, was passed unanimously in the Senate and provided President Obama “with the ability to block the publication of the photos that would endanger the safety of our men and women in uniform”…

“They can have the IMF. They can’t have the IMF and no pictures,” (Barney) Frank told POLITICO in his animated shorthand. “They certainly miscalculated on this pictures thing. I don’t know how the hell they thought that would work. The IMF drives away the Republicans. The pictures drive away the liberals you need. You have to choose.”

So what if those that abused detainees have already been punished by military justice? So what if releasing the photos – over the president’s objections – ends up costing currently serving soldiers who had nothing to do with them their lives?

There’s a principle at stake.

And they probably didn’t vote for Frank or Pelosi anyway.

  • Stunning. Just stunning. Barney Frank is such a contemptible… thing.

    • Whose side is he on? How can this possibly serve the interests of the U.S. regardless of party affiliation?

Bahney Fwank and Nancy Pelosi are on the side of Fwank and Pelosi. They are not alone in this ‘who’s side are they on’ thing, but for brevity’s sake, we can leave it at that for now. Because it’s early and listing that particular “who’s-who” turns my stomach and starts the day badly. Particularly today I want to be thinking thoughts of what was risked, accomplished, and begun this day 65 years ago.

SteveC — Thanks for the reminder. It is sobering to visit Omaha Beach — first, to look at the steep cliffs which restricted exits from the beach to the few draws — which the Germans had well protected. Second, to visit Point Du Hoc and realize the valor of the Rangers to scale those steep cliffs. Then to visit the cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, and see the stark evidence of the last full measure of devotion.

Come to think of it, wasn’t the war against Germany a “war of choice” as well? Wonder why Brokaw didn’t ask The One this week? Drool probably got in the way. He wouldn’t have been alone.

Contemptible is not a sufficiently word. But, this is a family blog, and I’m not sure there are words strong enough to describe that low life from Taxachussetts.

If they want a war, let it begin here. ACW-II.

If these guys that were given the levers of power, don’t understand the unintended consequences of their lust for revenge, then they should listen to this young (I assume, given the location) Navy wife’s plaintive cry over the possible death of her husband in a “war of choice”.

Hard choices? Not so hard, when you, or anyone you know, won’t potentially pay the price. With a Lcpl in the brood, we feel a little differently here.

    Scott,
there are no unintended or any bad consequences in Pelosi and Frank’s world – in their minds, by virtue of their social status they are insulated from anything but good coming their way.

May they weep bitterly in the future at what they have done.

“ends up costing currently serving soldiers who had nothing to do with them their lives?”

Not to mention the untold Muslim civilians who will die. Remember that there were more Muslim casualties during the Danish cartoon riots than Infidel casualties. How will that square with the, “Please don’t hate us, we want to be friends,” Cairo speach.
