Career Moves

24-year old midshipman makes one:

Navy officials say a junior at the U.S. Naval Academy has been detained for allegedly bringing 150 pounds of marijuana into the United States from Mexico.

Navy Region Southwest spokesman Doug Sayers says the 24-year-old midshipman is being held in the brig in San Diego and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service is investigating.

Sayers says U.S. Customs officials pulled over the midshipman, whose name was not released, on June 10 at the re-entry point at San Ysidro, Calif., just north of the Mexican border.

Gosh.

Such mistakes are not restricted to midshipmen, however: Career changes may also in the offing for a 51-year old Ensign.

This, on the other hand, is kind of COOL.

    Lex: Both linkee same-same..

  • Dear Mr Lex,

I have to admit that if I could make the choice again knowing what I know now I would have joined the American forces, better pay, prospects, training, equipment, medical etc etc.

After all you end up in the same places and are less likely to be bombed by your own side, with the added benefit of loads more firepower and we all appreciate that.

One last comment about your old mate Beef. Yes, it’s a cool job but recently I found out what an old OC of mine was up to. He is 57, he was in Afghanistan, in April of this year.

  • Speaking of career moves from real pilot to drone pilot, until the science makes sure it’s safe: Flying on green stuff article here.

Senator Ensign just needs to swap parties and maybe move to Arkansas. Oh, and deny everyhing. Always. He may still have a future. Just not for the people on the right.

  • The rumor mill has it that this wasn’t a career move for the mid, but an ongoing issue that was brought along from high school.

“But Officer, It’s just for my personal use, really.”

Thanks for the post of the COOL site. To coin a phrase, that is really cool. I looked up my daughters rating and there were over 20 certifications she could theoretically get.

As a Navy Dad, I am more and more impressed by how the Navy takes care of it’s young Sailors. Sure wish I were 30 years younger.

Maybe Ensign “Weed” could convert this into a plus- diversity means more than race, right? Shouldn’t the Navy have Admirals and Sailors who are pot-heads in the same proportion as the US in general? He could be first on the hempen-flag track if he has some support from the hill. He should also get diversity points for illegal border crossing. After all, undocumented border entry is part of the US national experience as well.

Potosi J- But ONLY if he doesn’t inhale.

  • G-man

Whoa, tough crowd in the ready room today, Bo! So the poor guy gets caught, loses his stash, gets booted out of Boat School, has to pay back for his 3 years, and gets a couple of years to contemplate his mischief.

give it a couple of weeks and he’ll be the poster boy for the Pot Legalization NOW! committee. After all, the US Mil needs “every qualified individual” regardless of sexual orientation, physical limitations, controlled substance abuse, intolerance of diversity, or any other previously non-qualifying condition. Why lose this talented and obviously entrepreneurial young’un? Make him into a Suppo.

“Diversity is Strength”. kinda sounds like one of those George Orwell phrases or something over the gates of the gulag.

I wonder if that midshipman at age 24 was another graduate of that NAPs school? Disproportionate analogy. Noted though.

I wonder if that midshipman, at age 24, was another graduate of that NAP school talked about below for minorities, jocks (gotta have DIV-1a, ho-hum) and lastly, up from the ranks and deserving enlisted? I’ll put money on it.

BTW, disproportionate analogy: 125 LB (not ounce) dope smuggler vs. Republican senator cutting slice on the sly? One is criminal the other is a moral dilemma only cared about by Republican’s in the first place generally (notice I didn’t use that code word conservative- that’s just a mood).

    Point noted though.

    603,

I think our honorable scribe Lex edited it for me and took out all the “visuals”..Torturous ain’t they? I’m far from an efficient writer though I did take English Comp 101 back in the early ’70′s. So-solly! LOL.
