TiVo Up

The Discovery Channel will show the “real” story behind the Maersk Alabama take-back on Sunday, 21 June, 2200 Eastern and Pacific:

Hear the untold story of the dramatic hostage situation aboard the Maersk Alabama and through exclusive Navy footage, witness the extraordinary measures taken to keep Captain Phillips alive. Step in side the world of an elite Navy SEAL to see how they pulled off three impossible shots to put a sudden end to a modern day pirate standoff.

Should be good (H/T to Greyhawk).

I don’t have a Tivo, so I’ll just have to wait till it’s on at a better time. I’m usually fast asleep by 2200..and hopefully by 2100.

Thanks for the heads up. For those with a Tivo and an iPhone, the DirecTv app lets you schedule a recording on your home Tivo on your phone. I was able to schedule this recording from Germany. Highly recommended.

    Watching it now

When the pirates realized they had an American ship they were like. “YES!”
they had been wanting to get an American ship.

    Their mistake!

Watched this last nite. I have to say that the key part for me was the takeover of the ship . . . the images and the story told by the bridge watch of the initial encounter with the gun toting and threatening pirates reinforced my desire that the pirates be permanently be removed from the gene pool in ALL such situations. The worry that either they’d be shot right then, or that they’d be living for months in some Somali prisoner camp while awaiting the payment of ransom, certainly hit home while seeing the actual guys telling the story.

Bravo Zulu Navy. Job well done to the Captain and men of the Maersk Alabama.

Watching this show makes me wonder about what they think the intellegence level of their audience is? If you take out all of the times that they repeated themselves, you only had about a 20 minute show. It was almost hard for me to watch.

I agree with you Jim. OTOH, it is still amazing to me that anyone, let alone three people simultaneously, could make the shots our SEALS did. It is acutally kind of hard to believe… The three of them should enter the olympics! I wonder if this is common for SEALS or, did they send in a special sharp shooter team? In any event, what an amazing job but, the turning point was when the pirates started detoxing off khat. It appeared that they were not happy campers. Sorry fellas, let us take you out of your misery…
