Road Trip?

Count me out. Don’t care who’s driving.

Note: I believe this is before we reform the health care system.

I’m afraid we’re all on it. Like raspy-voiced Mayor Gavin Newsome says, “It’s gonna happen. Whether you like it or not!”

As long as you can not explain it you don’t worry as much as when you can, it means you are as crazy as them. Seriously, figures don’t lie but liars do figure. I think both parties should go back and take a look at their ‘creative bookkeeping’. I don’t like where we appear to be going. We’ve got some hard choices to make, “Option ‘A’ sucks, Option ‘B’ sucks. Now choose *either* ‘A’ or ‘B’, there isn’t any other option like, ‘ C. None of the above.” Good old, Dubya wanted to be a ‘War Time President’ the same was true of his father, George H.W. Bush. I guess he wanted to impress the sheiks. Dubya, was a member of the Texas Air National Guard. But if I remember correctly, he served some of his time in the State of Alabama, he should have served all of his time in Texas. Do you mean to tell me the State of Texas is not big enough? I guess Texas Governor, John Connally, didn’t think so. I don’t think all of this debt or even most of it should be blamed on Obama. This war will be measured in the terms of generations, get used to it. This just adds balance to your ‘commentary’.

The trillion dollar debt IS a manifestation of the Obama administration. Look 2-3 years downstream and the reality is simply untenable. Why is China buying gold? Why is Russia buying gold? Why does the US think the world will continue to buy our debt when we pay it back with less valuable dollars? I know the CIA is tracking gold bullion reserves in the world and they don’t like what they see. Meaning? The dollar’s devaluation will continue until like Italian lira and Deutsche marks of post WW1 it will take a wheel barrow full to buy a loaf of bread. We no longer have “money” we have paper currency. And currency without a strong financial foundation (read gold) hunts about as well as a dead dog lying in the sun. Trust, it’s all about trust.

Another BDS sufferer joins our midst. Looks like I can get rid of the ‘effin idiot cap.

OK, Mr. Grumpy — here’s why you earned the cap (ignoring the conjectural rant — under what rock do you trolls find this stuff? Same place as the “McCain started the Forrestal fire” rant?).

Defense spending (including supplementals) as a % of GDP (and adjusted for inflation)

    1967 (height of VN war) — 11.16%
    1979 (Carter years) — 5.017%
    1988 (peak Reagan build up) — 5.91%
    1993 (“peace dividend” — procurement holiday) — 4.56%
    2001 (pre – OEF) — 3.03%
    2007 (OEF + OIF) — 3.64%

In reality, the peace loving Jimmy Carter spent more on defense than either Bush. So, take that back to the homeless shelter and share it with all of the other BDS sufferers. Reality is, Obama, by his own numbers, will increase public debt by a greater number than all of his predecessors combined. Try to distract with all of the Olby fantasies you want — won’t change that fact.

  • Grumpy in a nutshell:

“Bush didn’t do all of his Guard duty in Texas, ergo $4 trillion in Obama deficits makes perfect sense.”

  • Gmac

Told ya it was a white knuckle ride Lex…

So Grumpy, maybe you can explain the actual spending that he both voted on as a senator and signed into law as president doesn’t equal what the actual legislation states it does?

  • Quartermaster

If one compares the risk to pilots in the Texas ANG at the time, with the risk AF pilots ran in ‘nam, the ANG pilots were at greater risk than in ‘nam. Also, the interceptor that Bush flew didn’t have that great of a safety record either. Many try to paint Bush as a coward because he served in the ANG. The opposite actually the truth.

Anyone familiar with the National Guard also knows that what Dubya was allowed was not uncommon in the NG.

Personally, I’d like to chose “none of the above.” The left never allows such things when it’s done for our own good. If you don’t think it is for your own good, just ask and they will tell you it’s so, and that will settle it for anyone as insane as they.

@To All: It surely appears that I am the center of attention. First of all, I don’t believe at any point, I said, I supported the Obama spending. I wasn’t exactly happy about the bailout of the banks and auto industry. But, hopefully, as they claim, they will be able to pay it back. Then it will actually be an investment, not spending, but there must be an actual return will be greater than the original investment, plus appropriate interest. Me, I don’t believe it will work. Any choice we make will *suck, big time.*

@Scott, I don’t remember saying, “McCain started the Forrestal fire.” From what I understand, he was on the flight deck of the Forrestal, a missile misfired. At the time, his feet were actually touching the flight deck, there was no way for him to intentionally or accidentally set it off. After the fire, he was transferred to the Oriskany, where he served until he was shot down. The rest is history.

@Gmac, only if it actually improves the security of this Nation, here.

@davreg, you raise two points, let’s start with you second clause first. I would submit to you to go to the last sentence of the first paragraph. “Any choice we make will suck big time.” It does not justify it, but it is still fact, in my view.

On the first part, you proved me wrong, George W. Bush served his time at Houston for his Active Texas Air National Guard. He then moved to Birmingham, Alabama to serve his Inactive Reserve Time. He received an Honorable Discharge.

@To All: davreg and Scott were right to challenge on facts. On the first part of davreg’s challenge, the facts required that I admit that I was wrong. This is how we learn. The big questions become something like this. What about you? Are you going to admit when you’re wrong?

Well, Mr. Grumpy — once again, you are wrong. McCain was in the cockpit of his A4 when the fire started. The point isn’t whether you repeated that shibboleth — the point is that it is as fanciful as your idea that Bush 43 started OIF to be “known as a ‘War Time President’, the same was true of his father”. Both are fantasies of the unhinged left — and you place yourself squarely in their camp if you repeat either.

As far as me admitting when I’m wrong — you missed it. Did just that on Monday.

  • Gmac

Ya, it would be nice if it improved our nations security but pushing the national debt to new highs both as a percentage of the GDP as well as actual monetary expenditures now and in the next few years strikes me as one of the most craven examples of a politician paying off the special interest groups that got him elected and at the same time destroying the base of our economic engine that drives the country.

I certainly do agree that both parties created the problem but the fact of the matter is the ones most responsible for it are still at the helm.

I will still insist that ‘The Won’ has his finger prints on the spending bills passed before he became president and more directly afterward when his signature can be seen as evidence on the documents signatory lines making it law.

“Forrestal in Flames: Explosions Aboard USS Forestal”
    http://pbma.nasa.gov/pbma_main_cid_584

This has been the primary source of information. At no time, did I say, McCain was responsible for the fire. In fact, according to the reports that I have read, show the first Zuni Missle hitting McCain’s A-4 Skyhawk’s fuel tank. The missle hit it with kinetic energy, no detonation. This hit ripped a major hole in the tank, dumping the fuel on the flight deck. The fuel is ignited by fire from the tail of the rocket. Take the time to read the report. This shows some of the official views, from the Navy. NASA started doing studies on this Nation’s Systemic Failures, this is one of them.
